I hope all Americans don’t forget.
I hope they don’t forget this country goes to war against religious fundamentalist nations that push their beliefs on ethics into the lives and bodies of others, true Americans don’t seek to become a religious fundamentalism.
I hope they remember that the major religions all do not mention abortion ONCE in their texts- do not call it murder or anything of the sort- and the closest we get is exodus 21:22-25 in which it is said if a man harms a pregnant woman, if the fetus is lost he pays a fine as you would for damaged property, of the woman is killed it is “eye for an eye, life for a life.” So to the contrary of saying abortion is murder- the closest the Bible comes to the subject is to say clearly a pregnant woman has a life and is worth more than a fetus.
I hope Americans don’t forget our sisters and mothers and friends who have had abortions or considered them- and that we remember to trust each woman to make a decision and not think we…
.. need to decide for them.
I hope that we remember that for over 40 years abortion was a protected right in the United States and it didn’t cause the destruction of our nation or culture- it just gave people a choice.
I hope Americans don’t forget that even if they’ve never been in such a bad situation they could even imagine considering abortion- not everyone is so lucky. I hope we don’t forget our basic compassion and decency. I hope that those on the right remember their platforms of individual freedom and less involvement by the state in family matters.
People want to vote their conscience and I understand that- but I hope they don’t forget that “meat is murder” in someone else’s conscience and most of us probably wouldn’t appreciate animal products being made illegal. To someone else guns are synonymous to murder and while lots of people would be happy- those out there who wouldn’t be happy- How would you feel if they made guns illegal because the moral police demanded it?
Don’t forget that whatever your personal feelings, YOUR rights to make choices based on YOUR morals in YOUR life relies on protecting OTHERS rights to make choices based on theirs.
Don’t forget that the “Christian values” often sited for anti abortion beliefs- while unfounded in the texts as I say above- don’t forget that these same texts tell you to lead by example not by force. They tell you to turn the other cheek: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a](A) 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” Show people how you think they should live, don’t try to force them to follow your way.
No, I’m not. I’m not killing anything. I have no uterus. I would never be in a position where I could let alone even be able to consider having an abortion. When you eat meat you’ve killed an animal. When you type on the device you wrote this on you’re 99.9% benefiting from essentially slave labor. Is that right? I’m not here to debate that. You have the CHOICE, and if you think the poor little kids making devices and mining materials for batteries and living in wastelands dismantling ewaste over open pits next to where they eat and get water are a big enough weight on your heart- you’ll never buy another device again and stay off the internet. But- you can’t also choose in your best interest to be a part of that. So wether it is “killing your own baby” or not is for the woman having the abortion to decide and reconcile for herself.
I don’t use text to speech programs so I don’t actually hear this, and there is no talking. Just writing. The Person getting the abortion can decide and reconcile with themselves and their beliefs what happens. But you- as in YOU, probably use animal products and are most assuredly using a device that is the direct result of human misery and likely death. That is the choice YOU made and was afforded you- there are people dying all over the world simply because that’s the lube that the gears modern convenience run on. So myself and yourself who are actively complicit in this don’t really have a place to go around saying that scrambling an egg is a greater sin that the weight of death and misery our choices carry and for less justification to the cost.
