Current California average is $6.24 or so a gallon with higher likely the norm in major areas like parts of Southern California and the SF Bay Area. In those areas, higher prices still if $7 or more a gallon could be observed at stations where there is high traffic and limited access such as those with close freeway access or remote stretches near urban areas where fuel stops are far between. Hawaii is averaging a little over $5 a gallon. It’s an island. California has several major refineries but sees higher prices for fuel- part of that are state fuel requirements and taxes in fuels. A few months ago for a bit gas was almost $8 a gallon in Beverly Hills California. So I can’t say for certain this picture is from California but it would fit, and while the picture doesn’t give lots of context what can be seen in the background could easily fit a common scene for the state.
Lol. I can’t say that most people can’t skip either without missing too much. Both states have some unique culture and history as well as some great attractions and natural beauty, but California is a big diverse state. It isn’t the best state for a week or even a month trip as in that time you could barely explore one area of the state and there isn’t much there that you can find similar elsewhere. The main draws are the weather in much of the state is pretty mild most of the year and you have access to a lot of different climates and terrain and culture- but like I said- you can’t see it all in a month so if you want beaches, Florida has beaches. NC has beaches etc. if you want mountains or deserts or marshes and such… well… there are lots of other beautiful places.
Hawaii has a lot to offer but many find it not to be what they pictured when it comes to getting around and things like that. There’s a lot to explore but there can be a love/hate of tourists so it’s all what it is.
It’s a big huge country and a big huge world- so you probably aren’t missing a whole bunch skipping those two states unless there is something specific you want to see or experience etc. that is only there.
I get the humor but it’s important to note that the outbreak event in I am legend occurred around 2009. The “cure” that started the virus entered human tests in 2009. The evacuation of NYC took place December of 2009. By 2012 Neville was alone on Manhattan. So even if there had been time for demand to outstrip supply of fuel and even if the crisis caused prices to rise instead of fall on fuel- we live in 2022, over a decade later. For reference, the US energy crises of the 1970’s saw fuel explode in price. 63 cents a gallon in 1978 to 86 cents a gallon in 1979. That’s an increase of 23 cents- more than 30%. In 1969, a decade before, fuel was 35 cents a gallon. If we go a decade later to 1989 fuel was $1 a gallon. So you can see from these numbers that even as the economy and situation improved, you’d still likely see an increase in the posted price of fuel over a 10 plus year span. If the apocalypse happened in 1958 gas would also be cheaper than in 2022- that’s sort of obvious.
