Now now. Elon Musk can be said to be quite competent. He is after all, the worlds richest man. He’s been incredibly competent at generating money and influence for himself.
Does he always deliver what he promised? Very rarely- but the promises are so big and there are always more and it’s usually “someone else’s fault,” so he still has a dedicated following.
Do the people he says he’s trying to help or who invest in his vision always do well? Not really no. But SOME people make lots of money or end up happy with things- usually the “right people” who have money! Does he frequently find himself in legal trouble or breaking laws or ethics? Sure. But he always gets away without meaningful or any consequences.
If we examine his track record, his brand, his trajectory- why… if not for a pesky part of US law (that perhaps in the spirit of disruption and innovation his loyal fans and vassals may get overturned one day)…
Elon Musk is basically a few bankruptcies away from having the near perfect template for becoming president with no political experience or career. He’s like the spitting image of the 45th US president in his younger days. I mean- right down to the flip from being aligned to the political left and then embracing more politically right groups and ideas. The amount of calculation and manipulation to achieve the personal success and cult of personality he has- while maintaining the near indoctrination of people on vastly opposed ideological spectrums displays a high degree of competency as a skilled manipulator and in achieving self interest. The misunderstanding is the assumption that a ruling class exists to serve the interests of those they rule. Musk os not alone in being very competent at serving the interests of himself and thusly the ruling class. He stands out above most peers in his ability to make people think he is serving their interests while he uses them and discards them.
