Sorry to hear it. Far too many people- and arguably 1 would be too many” do take a stance that a woman can’t abuse a man- but I don’t think “society” does so. Some cultures or subcultures tend to hold this belief widely- but most decent people know that abuse and abusive behavior at not limits by age or gender or any other criteria. Mental, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse or abusive behavior can happen to anyone. I hope that you’re able to find the support you need. My best advice is to seek support from supportive people as much as possible. The world is full of people who don’t support others or even deny the existence or legitimacy of their struggles. Denial of racism, denial of gender or identity or sexuality, denial of all manner of prejudice or struggles.
“Women can’t rape men,” women can’t abuse men,” “bisexuals don’t exist or are just sluts,” “you can’t love more than one person,” “trans people are confused or sick,” “just because you feel like a man/woman doesn’t make you one or mean you should be treated as one,” “racism doesn’t exist anymore like that,” “family courts aren’t biased against men,” “there are only two genders,” gay/trans/lgbtq+ are pedophiles/sex offenders,” “XYZ thing isn’t wrong, people are just too sensitive.” Many people are guilty of denying the basic existence of others struggles or creating narratives that turn people needing support into villains or figures undeserving of empathy.
For anyone who’s ever experienced this in some way or who can see where denial of human truths like the suffering of abused men is a harm against themselves and the world- the best we can each do is try to be accepting of others when they tell us the struggles and harms they face.
