I did giggle at this, but the first time I filed my own taxes (my first job as an adult) I remember being scared and confused. I went to the local IRS branch and asked what form I needed. Then I took the form and went home. It had instructions written all over it. I followed them, did some simple math, and then triple checked it. I sent it off and some time later received a small refund.
Nowadays there is turbo tax and internet and intuit and all sorts of tools that do everything f for you, you don’t even have to be able to “put the amount from box A on W2 into box C on tax form” or even need to pick a form, you just answer some questions and that’s the end of it.
I think it is great that we now live in a day and age where all someone needs to know is that taxes exist and they can do them. In 2023 a grade school child could almost certainly handle taxes. It’s a wonderful thing.
