So, a brief history. The idea of a month dedicated to celebrating women and their achievements was floated in the US as early as 1911. It wasn't until 1980, however, before a week was officially dedicated to the event, before the full month of March was allotted in 1987.
In Canada, it took until 1992, and it's observed during October. Not too far behind, Australia also officially adopted the month of March for this observance in 2000.
