Let’s say we added an axis for “over time” to help out the fluid folks, what else would you put as additional axis? Help me out here because I hover near the 0,0 (agender, with some residual ingrained biases), but I’m really not very familiar with other non-binary expressions.
I mean, I know some people that go by neo-pronouns, and I know a lot of people don't like those, but it's still important to acknowledge some people don't identify with being on the male/female spectrum at all.
Additionally, yeah some people swing between genders on a day-to-day basis. I am not an expert in gender studies, and my friends who are didn't really respond lol
But it’s still on the male female axis.
Conceptualise, if you will, a third gender that is neither male nor female, but it’s own separate and complete thing.
And whoever is downvoting me, speak up for yourself. Only cowards express their opinions without identification
That’s what I was asking you about. What third and beyond genders are you familiar with? I haven’t encountered any yet and would love to learn about the ones you have.
Edit to add: the graph is reductive because the concept is reductive. Even cultures that name additional genders frame them in the context of masculine, feminine, or the absence thereof. I don’t fault the graph for not breaking new ground on concepts that humans haven’t even been able to really articulate.
I mean, neo-pronouns
But honestly, I don’t have enough experience with it to educate others, and I’m not really comfortable talking to my friend about it. New words are emerging in this area all the time. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Also, seriously, whoever is downvoting… if you have an opinion, share it. You poor excuse of a “neutral” human being.
I’m the one downvoting you. You think you’re so entitled to an explanation you can’t even see what’s right in front of you. Stop dog whistling.
Forgot to add: I use neo pronouns. I don’t identify with the gender binary. I’m the hypothetical person you’re talking about.
I’m confused, because your actions and words don’t really match up. Though that may be because I’m autistic. There have been times in the past where there have been a third person downvoting in a conversation on this site, and I assumed it had happened again.
However, something that I and my queer friends agree on is that there should be another axis to this graph, whatever it ends up being. One even suggested four axes.
Perhaps an axis for the asexual spectrum, which I am part of
Honestly, I speak what’s on my mind. So if my thoughts are half baked, that’s what it is. I’m not sure how to feel about the conversation overall, but it was a good thought exercise
It’s asking for your gender. Not your physical sex, not your orientation, not even your expression. Why would it include asexuality?
I think there are great conversations to be had about how things currently associated with gender could be recategorised, but this is, as you say, a real half-baked way to go about it.
Oh. Tbh I kinda forgot. I sent that before bed, and only realised my mistake as I was falling asleep.
All in all, I do think the third axis should be fluidity, and a fourth axis for a gender outside of male/female, but I haven’t given it enough thought to what that might be, so
Good chatting
