I still dont under stand what cyber bullying is. The only person who can force you to read all that mean shit is YOURSELF. How is this bullying? And dont give me a "words hurt" response because like I said if youre willing reading hate mail its on you.

Well usually not only can you read it but everyone else. Actually the whole world. And if you "choose to read" bullying then your logic goes that you "choose to hear" bullying. Bullying is bullying.

On my phone, you can't block texts. It's not a smartphone. It's really hard for me to talk about what happened

missraven

It doesn't matter if you can block the texts or not. That doesn't stop the ones you've already read. Please refer to my post below about the matter. This is something I feel very strongly about, because it shouldn't matter if they can block you or not. You should not be enough of an asshole to tell people things that would drive them over the edge.

You can block texts actually, you can get their number blocked. Or you can change you number
taratheartist
Changing your number costs money, and my phone can't block numbers no matter what
brainy
You can call up your phone company and they can block a number.

Doesn't matter - cyber bullies are assholes. <3 And probably any function where you get the company to change something, it will cost money.

Its not always that easy, particularly when you go to school with the kids who are bullying you. While killing yourself is clearly the wrong way to go about dealing with it, it is unfortunately the only thing some kids think they can do. I hate to see it happen. It actually happens all the time where I live; at least a kid a year ends up killing themselves. I do believe that the kids that do the bullying should be somewhat responsible for what they do.

Exactly. If someone is bullying you, it's not your fault. It's whoever is doing the bullying. Unless you've been bullied or pressured into doing something yourself, you don't really know what is going through our minds

Well I agree wayward, but this post is specifically about cyber-bullying.

Personally, I've never bullied. I think the best way to prevent being a victim of bullying is by simply making good friends. Think of it as building an army, preparing for battle. You are hopeless on your own. But with a group of close friends, it can be prevented. Secrets will never be kept within. If your close friends think you're being bullied, they'll speak up for you if you can't do so yourself.

This may be true... but for the people who struggle with these things, the doubt in yourself is already there. You already worry if you annoy people or if you aren't good enough. Even though you block them or you know what they say isn't true, you still read it and you still believe it. Often cyber bullying isn't a comprehensive list of everything you've done wrong where you can realize before you read it what it's about and not read it. Often it's just a short statement, like "killing yourselves is part of natural selection". You look at that and you've already read it by the time you realize it's hurtful. Please keep an open mind and remember that many people who face suicide are depressed which is a mental condition. You're already suffering without anyone saying anything, so even the smallest things make a huge deal. It's like all of your skin being ripped off is depression and then someone puts just one drop of lemon juice on your finger. Only each person to say something is

putting one more drop. You never look like you've got no skin, and there's no way for them to know about the thirty other people who have all put a drop of lemon juice on there as well. For anyone who isn't suffering, many comments wouldn't even matter. They would just roll off and maybe be a little sticky (like a drop of lemon juice). But those people who are already hurting, each of those drops compound until it's enough to drive you over the edge.

It's pathetic when people kill themselfs just because someone behind a computer screen told them to. I have askfm where countless people I know went on anon and told me to kill myself or cut deeper, why give these assholes any satisfaction, just ignore them. And for every person telling me to kill myself or cut deeper there was someone saying I'm beautiful and to stay strong :)

There is nothing pathetic about being overwhelmed or hurting inside. It is absolutely pathetic to tear people down for any reason. If you don't have something helpful to say (even if that something is negative) don't say anything. It's cruel and unnecessary to tell people to kill themselves no matter what they do, and even if they don't, it is absolutely not okay to tell them to.

karina127

Well of course it's not okay to tell someone to kill themselfs. Generally I do not believe that suicide cowardly but if you're going to kill yourself just because some asshole behind a screen told you to it's quite pathetic.

Just because someone on the screen told you to doesn't make it the only reason. It's just a contributing factor that should be eliminated. No one kills themselves just because someone on the internet said so, they do it because someone on the internet said so, and they have nothing to live for, and their grandmother died last week. But the person on the internet could have supported them rather than being an ass and maybe a life could have been saved.

I've been through a lot of shit in my life. Suicide is something that is always in the back of my mind. I've had people tell me "cut deeper", "go hang yourself tonight", "kill yourself", "you're useless", and so many other horrible things. Yeah sure that hurts, a lot, but it's not something you should let push you over the edge.
1
missraven
I agree fullheartedly - but people should be considerate enough to not tell people to do things like that.
2
karina127
I agree but unfortunately the world is full of assholes :\
1
missraven
Why add one more by calling people pathetic? If every single person stopped saying "the world is full of assholes" and started to say "I won't be an ass" the world would have a lot less assholes.

karina127

The person isn't pathetic, the action is under that circumstance...

Maybe, maybe not. It's stressed and miserable, certainly.

I do not understand why people don't simply block the person. I think they're fucking stupid. It's just a button. Click or tap it. You'll never see the person on your wall again.

Cyber bullying hurts. Sometimes you can't help to read it. And sometimes if it gets worse enough people will find other ways too reach you, and if it's people at school they will harass you at school. Sometimes people just want it to stop and it hurts so much that they aren't thinking straight.
