I know right just sit and think... a interal software update will some how modify your exteror to make it water proof

technically the update was to shut the system down if it detected water, but still aint gonna just happen in an OS update

How did that person think they were going to get their phone out of the river? Regardless of the waterproof-ness of it, why would you drop your iPhone in a river?
