I've never understood those people. :/ I mean, I don't just eat the end pieces, but that's because we put then in a separate bag and use them for breakfast stuff. They toast A LOT better than the inner pieces. It's great with grits.
Well to be fair I usually dont even get through a whole loaf before its gone bad, so I don't eat a lot of the inner pieces too. But as to the end pieces, its 1 thing to finish off the loaf and use both end pieces on a sandwich, or use them for something specific like navybrats. Its something completely different to use the first end piece with an inner piece right from the start of the loaf. Unless your planning on eating the entire loaf that day you leave that shit in there. That outer piece is a barrier for air, so taking it out first means your entire loaf is going to go stale faster, and your inner pieces arent gonna be as good even if they arent stale.
I have a deep seated hatred for barbarians like yourself that do this
commercial loaves have a lot of additives that break down and stay in the crust so it is also the least healthy part of the loaf. Normal people use the end pieces to keep the inner slices from going stale.
I mostly feed them to my horses, but thats because when I tend to eat them they're pretty hard. Perfect for my horses since they can't eat fresh bread.
Same here.
Growing up, I was told that the crust has more vitamins and nutrients. None of this cutting the crust off sandwiches and avoiding end pieces for me, and to this day, I actually enjoy the taste and texture.
If nothing else, maybe it'll put some damn hair on your chests, people!
I was told none of that. I just like crusts. That's pretty much it. But is that even true? The crust is just the outside of the bread that was more exposed to heat than the inside.
I'm not even sure. It DOES seem like something to tell your kids when they show signs of being a picky eater.
In any case, the crust is my favorite part of most breads, vitamins be damned!
