Back up to Mybrotherisblonde's comment, actually there has been countless accounts where a dog has eaten the own. May it be pre or post their death, it still happens.

..but dogs are still better

Doesn't it only occur with dogs that are severely mistreated? Like barely even fed? Because if so I don't blame them.
