People always wonder why they never smile and then I tell them this and sometimes people don't believe and it makes me want to slap them across the face.

Victorian is also a time period of ~1837-1901 and these photos were at the height their technology. If any of your ancestors ever had a photo made between 1837 to 1901, then they could be considered taken in the Victorian era, i.e. your Victorian ancestors.
