Only girls with low magnesium levels get cramps consistently during their period. Problem is, most of the western population is low on magnesium (about 70%) and this level rises to over 90% for teenage girls. Science graduate y'all.
It's also genetics. Women who get severe cramps during theirs periods have generally inherited it from their mothers while women who don't have cramps (naturally) have inherited from their mothers. Also, stress is a huge factor. The more stressed out you are, the worse your cramps are (your uterus is kicking you while you're down).
