Well, there's two ways to pronounce "read." You can pronounce it like red or like reed, they're both correct just one is past tense (red) and the other is present tense (reed). So "read" (when pronouncing it as "red") is a homonym with the word red. But "read" (when pronouncing it as "reed") isn't a homonym with red.
