Guys....just because so few were reported doesn't mean that no others happened... just that they told the authorities...
When I wad molested, I didn't tell anyone. Not my parents, friends, or the police because I was scared of bringing shame and pity on myself and my family. And I'm no feminist (hell, I wanna be a housewife) but I do think a rape culture exists....
Downvote me if you want but.....this is from the pov of someone who has gone through that fear and that shame and disgust with herself
Ok you know what? Fine if you want to be a housewife, but that doesn't mean you aren't a feminist. If you believe women should have equal rights, you are a feminist. If you want your mum to be paid the same wages as any male would if they had the same job, you are a feminist. People need to learn the correct meanings of words before they use them. Sorry but that's just my opinion. Anyone who does not believe in equal rights, therefore anti feminists, aren't ok with me.
And that's not at all the point. The point is that not only feminists agree there is a rape culture

I think there's a problem with the fact that feminism is so misunderstood. Somewhere along the way it became a dirty word. People don't realize that it's a fight for equality, not superiority. Bellatrix hit the nail on the head here.
I agree that Bellatrix did make a really great point on feminism but what I'm saying is that wasn't the point of my comment.....I wanted to prove the post wrong. Rape culture exists
While the technical definition of the word feminism does mean advocating for EQUAL rights, the connotation of the word doesn't anymore. It's changed, it's much more along the lines of misandry now. As ricepudding put it, "it became a dirty word". The connotation of words has a huge impact on their use. For example, if I were to call you strong-willed, you might even take that as a compliment. However, if I were to use synonyms of strong-willed such as stubborn or pig-headed, you'd be offended. They all mean the same thing, yet they are interpreted differently. You can't get mad at people for using a word as its connotation rather than its denotation, because connotation is how others feel and perceive the word, which is more important than the strict definition of the word itself.
But it's all stereotypes when people say feminism is women hating men and such and it's been greatly induced by media and that's annoying. I want to tell people I'm a feminist and not have them give me funny looks, so I educate them on the definition (which I usually find to be more important than how I perceive a word). Besides, there's no other word for actual feminism.
In this thread, the original poster clearly doesn't understand anything about feminism, patriarchy, and rape culture. Please, take a women's studies or sociology course when you graduate high school.
Nothing really popular glorifies rape (well, maybe some songs), but there are some things that do. There are plenty of graphic descriptions of rape and I hear people joke about rape all the time. It's disgusting. And like kissmysass says, plenty of people don't report rape. I know three women who have been raped and only one of them reported it and the guy ended up getting away anyways. Rape happens all the time, don't label it as some completely obscure act. Or someone will try to report it and they end up being accused of lying or the guy is founded not guilty because of some bullshit like "she was dressed promiscuously."
What the hell?! Just because few reported doesn't mean few happened, even IF few happened doesn't mean it's not a problem!
As long as you have a heart and a brain you are an equal human being!
That's right I'm a feminist!
But I believe that women are equal to men, not better.
There is a feminism club at my school. I agree with their notions that women should have equal pay and more rights in other countries. However, I hate their culture about how men are to blame for everything. I was talking about how Miley Cyrus has no respect for herself and how gross the Robin Thicke performance was. She was like Robin Thicke let her do those things, he is disgusting! Miley is just being Miley and I was like no! Another girl there refuses to read books written by men! I think they are crazy... And yes the rape statistics are bad, but the bias is horrible too. Both of these are biased and don't encompass the whole truth odds are! Its so difficult to find the truth when it comes to this...
Just because it wasn't reported doesn't mean it didn't happen. Also, they probably had an anonymous survey for the statistics. And another thing, they say by the time they "finish college" not "during college" this means anytime up till about age 22.
I'm sure theres more rapes then whats reported cause their scared or ashamed or whatever reason. But i think they still prove their point that feminists have got their statistics wrong. Because I personally dont think 470 didnt report it for every one that did cause thats what it would take to make their 1/4 stat true. Give or take cause Im not checking the math that close.
Not sure where you are getting the 3196 number from. That would be 3196 out of 12784 (12800 maybe?) to get 1/4. 12800 is nowhere on the article, closest is 14800. Foxfox was correct, for the 1/4 number to be true with the 3 unis provided, for every 1 person that reported a case of rape, 470 (actually 468.25 (469.25 minus the 1 that reported)) would need to be raped and not report it
I had meant the number of rape cases that went unreported in the University of Pittsburg, but upon review I see that my math was flawed. I entered 12,800 instead of 14,800, a massive error. I apologize.
Rape culture IS bullshit, rape is the choice by an individual to violate another person against their will sexually. Unfortunately, feminists think they should teach boys that "rape is bad", it's no different than having a white person 'teach' African American children that crime is wrong. To make assumptions based upon ones gender is the same as making assumptions based upon ones race to do so makes the person making the assumptions the racist/sexist. Thus by promoting such classes makes the feminist movement sexist, in result: a sexist organization cannot be reliable to make moral decisions for the community or promote ideas without extreme analyzing or questioning from the public to check if it is morally sound. Sexism and racism are a type of discrimination that parallel one another, just like a racist's decisions are based upon the other's skin color, a sexist's decisions are based upon gender...and feminism does just this.
RAPE IS THE MOST UNREPORTED CRIME IN AMERICA BUT I DOUBT YOU TOOK THAT INTO CONSIDERATION. HMMMM. WAY TO FEED INTO RAPE MYTHS & GIVE FEMINISTS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW MAINLY MEN BELIEVE THEM.
