It really comes down to Americans being selfish. They believe that what they earn is what they get and they don't want to share that with anyone especially not pay higher taxes. For Christs sake they dot even want healthcare because it will raise taxes! They had a whole revolution that started because they didn't want to pay for higher taxes. Long story short Americans are selfish.
Well the thing is, some of us can barely pay these taxes as it is. Yes, a number of Americans are selfish. I'm willing to pay taxes, but if our government doesn't use my money for things this country would benefit from, then no, I am not. I can't speak for everyone, but most Americans are peeved that our tax dollars are going towards prisons rather than education, for example. Get informed before making assumptions, kid
I totally get that point. But why are there no big protest movements against spending so much on prisons or atleast reducing the military spending? Your defense budget is higher than the next 10 or 11 countrys combined(don´t quote me on that I didn´t look up the exact figures but it is a lot). Why is that not an issue in politics but giving your fellow citizens healthcare is ? I know that not all Americans are the same but you can´t just say I don´t like what they´re doing and not come up with a better plan.
Not that simple, you see, all the people in power have money and want more. Anybody who agrees with you either didn't have money enough to run for a position to change anything, or doesn't have the support needed. Yes anybody can run, if you can afford it though why would you change it, the system would already work for you
"Man's basic vice, the source of all his evils, is the act of unfocusing his mind, the suspension of his consciousness, which is not blindness, but the refusal to see, not ignorance, but the refusal to know.”

^This is what's wrong with our society. I must say I do not agree in funding people's higher education or having the type of education we have in this country. However, that is bc that type of system (what we have today) is how you indoctrinate a society/generation/civilization. The rest is accurate to me.....I ask myself everyday, "where is the outrage?" But I see how our generation is with their electronic crack. i have bright students failing bc they NEED that phone to distract themselves. If they do not have they are thinking about it. I try to open their minds but you have to be careful when you are a teacher. You gotta point them in the right direction without telling them what to see. You have to make them feel like it was all them.
Ita funny, how are we supposed to have a new generation with better ideas if the bigots and racists from the older generation are still sitting in Congress throwing temper tantrums and "filibusters"? There's actually numerous poles showing Congress and just the American government in general is more hated now than... well since the pole started really.
I have no issues with taxes so long as they're being used for the right things, our military budget could be cut in half and still be number 1 in the world, its more of a jobs program and you see billion dollar fighter jets instantly getting scrapped cause were making shit we don't need.
It's the corporations that need to get taxed more. They need to start paying their workers a livable wage as apposed to making people work 2 or 3 jobs to live in an apartment with food that isnt McDonald's...
As much as I hate the idea of cutting the military budget in half, I come from a military family and most of us agree that when you have to shut down part of the military because of expenses, it's time to start cutting back. I'm not solely talking about the government shutdown, there have been a number of occasions where my father's squadron have had to stop what they're doing for weeks at a time, because of budget issues.
I come from a military family too... those problems are usually political bullshit, I'm simply suggesting not pouring money where we don't need it (and where the military is even saying we don't need more of _____) and putting it where we do need it... such as those missions where money is an issue.
Okay, I am proud of my country (America) but I'm not particularly proud of some of the decisions the government makes. But seriously? All of you idiot commenters and this post is categorizing all Americans as selfish, when really it is just the government's choices. I understand America can make stupid decisions, and I agree with certain aspects of this post, but not all Americans are idiots.
I have to agree! Many of us actually strive to help and look out for others so we are far from selfish. We cannot change how the rich keep getting into Congress and making changes that continuously benefit them, they are the selfish and hated. That's like making the generalization that Americans are all fat, or all Irish are angry red-headed drunks. It's highly inaccurate and plain and simple RUDE.
And that's the problem with America... we don't unite and stand up for ourselves anymore.
We have essentially accepted defeat.
Plus we're busy as shit slaving our asses off for those rich fuckers.
Well how exactly do you roudy an entire nation into sticking up? Voting obviosuly is a joke, its a mental game to keep everyone shutup and believing they have control while the bigshots laugh
It's basically like when you're backed in a corner faced with a "fight of flight" response. It's power in numbers and reversing the fear back to the government.
Look at places with famine, poverty, disease, and high crime rate. Most of the time they reach a point where they all say "Know what? Fuck this. We're bringing this to your doorstep until you fix it."
When people have to fight harder and harder to survive, the first plan is to make it just as hard for the people who put you there.
Its funny because everytime I see stuff like this, or hear of the government doing crazy shit, that same idea comes to mind...and everybody else's mind I talk to. A leader to untite us, black or white, gay or straight, fat or skinny; all of us...
There is a 0% chance of us getting anyone helpful that would actually appease the American people as a whole. Anyone who'd dislike the "leader" or his views would become "enemies of the revolution". Not because they are against the movement itself, but because they dislike him. That being said, the AntiChrist could possibly unite the country, but that doesn't seem likely to end well...
Yeah, that is always gonna be an issue. The goal is to get a guy that enough people like (preferably sane.... we don't need anymore "tea party" groups...)
Again power in numbers. If someone or even a group can get more people to join the cause and create a chain reaction little by little our goal could be reached.
I just think it's funny how people from other countries can point out our flaws and our stereotypes and think that every American is that way. People are people, no matter where we're from. If those people who hate on Americans were born here, they would be doing the same exact thing we're doing. Knowing that there's a problem with this country but not having enough power and reputation to change a single thing. Let's say there were a group of people that were standing up for what we need, and were headed in the right direction, the news would then twist the story to make the people who don't understand turn against them. We live in a fucked up place, but it's our home. We need a savior who can take out the criminals in congress and make everything okay, we need a hero. We need.. The Batman.
Aaaaand now we're friends.
Fucking love batman... lol
But yeah... the media is another major issue. A lot of times other countries have a better understanding of whats going on in America than the general American public does....
But given how hated Congress is right now for shutting the government down maybe we're that much closer to putting an end to it.
As a Canadian I stand at an awkward point in this situation, I would not want to take anyone's side because I might offend the other. I would never so anything to purposely harm some one.
I like how a few people have taken yet another chance at making Obama out to be some kind of king bogeyman here. You DO realize that there are many other people in positions of power in this country, right? You know, like the many obstructionist republicans who'll go against him no matter what the cause?
I'm all for attainable higher education in this country, but it's not as simple some would have you believe. We need enlightened people in all corners of the government, but how likely is that to happen?
Not necessarily American's faults. Sure we 'elect' the government, but you're delusional if you think that we actually have a say in who makes these laws.
The US may not have the best education when it comes to the public sector, but our private schools are the best in the world. Harvard, Stanford, among other schools are the best in the world.
I'm amused by all the parrots who repeat everything their frustrated liberal professors whine about. Tell you what: stop smoking pot to clear your head for a minute and realize that a 20 something knows NOTHING about the real world. Oh, it is humorous. I can't wait until everybody hits their late thirties, mid forties :) Then you will truly know what pain and misery is :)
Oh yeah, working your ass off with shit pay no benefits or overtime to pay endless tuition and for your Medicaid is a dream come true
Especially with how plentiful and enriched with jobs this society is.
Walk in the park you old shit.
