Yes. Miss America should totally have been a white person, just like it has been for several years now. Because everyone knows that white people are the original occupants of America . . .
Also, everyone knows that the dominant religion of India is Islam. Of course it is not something else, like, you know, Hinduism.

When I began reading your comment I was about to reply with some very angry, maybe hurtful, words but then as I continued reading I understood. Well done.
And of course people want peace in america yet act like assholes to people of other races, although the originals were native Americans and like the douches we were screwed everything up. 'MERICA!
I love how, primarily Republicans, get SOOOOO angry when you add on slight tax increases or take away the slightest bits of their rights, when they have NOOOO qualms about restricting who you can marry or who gets money to support their family.
I am a republican, taking away a tiny portion of my rights is unacceptable, because it never stops with a tiny portion... As far as who gets money, where do you think the money comes from? It comes from taxpayers
You give up a tiny portion of your individual rights every time you advocate the rights of the community. It's a balancing act and it's why, for instance, more security means less privacy and vice versa. And surely there's more benefit in cultivating a strong community than there is in encouraging individuals to duke it out for maximum freedom and maximum resources? I think individual rights should be subordinate to the ongoing stability of the group.
Well you sir are the reason that tyranny can happen. You're someone who won't stand up when the government takes away just a little bit of your rights and before you know it you have to have a permit to walk on the sidewalk and pay a tax to take a piss. You should read some of America's founding fathers' quotes.
jjohnson21, you are beginning to use a slippery slope argument. There is no evidence that what willfree is arguing will irrefutably degenerate into the dystopia you are describing.
Tyranny is one of those words that gets used like a chess piece, but never really gets defined, and the fact that it's drawn from the magnificence of the founding fathers doesn't substitute for your thinking clealy about what you're trying to say. What is it exactly that you're trying to make me afraid and guilty of?
You know what scares me? A world where more emphasis is put on maintaining personal freedom than on responsibility to our fellow man. I stand up and fight where I think it's appropriate; the point is that I'm willing to give up what might feel like entitlements, if I believe that they can't be sustainably applied to all humans equally. If my thriving comes at the expense of social cohesion, the species loses, and the class is more important than the member. It's not about me - it's not about you. It's about us.
I have to say, Willfree, you present your case quite well. It makes my heart glad when people on FS can think outside of the box that the "news" has corralled us into with their spin on matters. And I'm not hammering Republicans on this, as it can be applied to both sides. Although one might not be faulted for saying that Reps can be a bit more obvious about it, that is to say, the extremists that have managed to take the reins.
Thanks, mgoveia. I think the difference is that the right seems to believe that it's every man for himself (which is kind of funny when you think about how much the rejection of Darwinism tends to come from the right), while the left wants no man left behind. It's individualism versus communalism.
You're right, though, they both have horrible consequences and we very often find ourselves choosing between terrible leadership or terrible leadership. I hope one day we can find an alternative/equilibrium, because until then I think we're pretty much doomed to keep vacillating between left and right in an attempt to clean up the mess left by the last idiots.
Also, for the record, I feel bad about hijacking this thread.
Don't ever feel bad about that. If you have something to say, say it. Too many people on FS comment when they have NOTHING to say. We need more people like you here.
Btw, the kinship I'm feeling with you and your Independent nature makes me want to suggest Lewis Black's stand up comedy to you. Have you heard of him?
