They did it on purpose so that people who wanted to invade would go to greenland and then not want to even try iceland because if THAT was green, then what would ICE be like
Back when the Vikings were there, I guess it was the other way around, and I think they visited that part of Greenland where it was a little greener...
Greenland got its name because the section the Norse settled was green at the time and was agriculturally superior to Iceland's land. Iceland was named for an icy fjord on it by a Viking who hated it.
