I think that the main complaint is that now the people that have lived in Canada their whole lives can't get a minimum wage job if they apply at the same time as an immigrant. I believe this is due to the fact that employers don't want to be considered racist. Another issue is a big debate on changing our national anthem because it has the word "God" in it, and wether or not "Merry Christmas" is an acceptable term. We already can't have Christmas trees in our airports, women can wear their Hajibs (spelling?) going through airport security. It's because we cant walk through a mall without being surprised when we see a fellow born Canadian. I get I maybe got a little carried away, and I'm sorry. But please look at it that way.
I think immigrants help shape America and continue it's prosperity. But ILLEGAL immigrants? Take advantage of our public schools without paying taxes, take jobs from Americans, and basically spit on the immigrants who worked their buts off to get here legally. Like my friend from China who is the one who told me all of this.
And on the other side of that coin are the people who make the immigration laws that give people the run-around for years without even the guarantee of eventual success. Combine that with deadly conditions in our lovely neighbor countries that apparently aren't newsworthy, and you get people resorting to illegal means to come here.
Not to mention the job-taking is overblown. Placing the blame on them trying to feed their families and not the businesses taking advantage of them is laughable, as well.
yeah but the bottom line is they didn't get the rights to be here. I get that their conditions are bad but we've got newsworthy problems of our own. and THEY DIDN'T GET THE RIGHTS TO BE HERE. but if they do...then I will welcome them with open arms.
The "bottom line" doesn't excuse our part in the problem. Nor will it keep people out, many who are fleeing for their lives or the lives of their children, not to mention it's not exactly lighting a fire under those creating immigration law.
You know, if one were crazy, you could almost see this as one political party's way of keeping potential voters for the opposing party out...
I honestly am not sure what that last comment was about, but...we have plenty of people fighting for their lives and the lives of their children here, maybe not for the same reasons, though. We're not responsible for the entire population of the world. And yes, nothing will stop them from trying, but maybe we should stop excusing them?
''sheds tear'' this is beautiful, just shows you how ungrateful americans are,and their culture is like a group of cultures who had an orgy and made the ''american'' culture.
There are definitely plenty of misguided people here, but to lump us all together is just as ignorant. Besides, like the last guy said, it's not just us. There are stupid people everywhere.
