I know there's a difference when it comes to an M and a m. The uppercase means midpoint of a segment. The lowercase is used as in slope, such as y=mx+b.

G and g might be related in the alphabet, but in math they're just placeholders - they're not the same symbol. Precision is important in math.

Indeed. Upper and lower case g is representative of completely different constants.

g= acceleration due to gravity 9.8 ms^-1
