Very little on this site is original. You can always Google for it!

(the lack of originality isn't a bad thing in my opinion, I like the collection of content here)

I know as well. Your comment hinted that you had seen it; I too posted it for others. You mentioned that the information should not have been left out, so now it's not!

Here's some info for the unaware:

The zone rouge is a chain of non-contiguous areas throughout northeastern France that the French government isolated after the First World War. The "zone rouge" was defined just after the war as "Completely devastated. Damage to properties: 100%. Damage to Agriculture: 100%. Impossible to clean. Human life impossible".

And the source of these images, with information:

I'm sorry, what?

Gather round! This is an excellent teaching opportunity.

This is an example of a gadget created by a "designer". There seem to be a lot of these around the Internet lately. Note that these designs are just that, designs. They don't work and no one ever claimed they would. It's someone saying "wouldn't that be cool if..."

If you see a futuristic gadget, Google it and see if it's real, or just a concept. Was it made by a "designer" or an "engineer"?

In this case, designer it is:

Everyone saying an eraser made out of pencil shavings would be useless is exactly right. This would be useless, but "wouldn't it be cool if pencil sharpeners made erasers?"

If you're moving toward something at (very) high speeds, it changes color to the observer due to the way light works.

For this to be visible to the naked eye, we're talking speeds near the speed of light. Not something a car would be doing.

It is, however, useful in determining the relative speeds of stars and galaxies...

So wrong, we need more people like this 11 comments

Okay, so before you lose faith in humanity, let's take a look at the source. No one made a law saying "no feeding the homeless". The ordinance is for "outdoor food distribution centers" and basically says that if you're serving food outside, you need to provide restroom facilities, garbage cans, and a place for people to wash their hands. These all seem like perfectly reasonable things that most anyone here would agree make sense.

Should there be an exception for an old man feeding the homeless? Probably. And they did address the problem by stopping the enforcement of the ordinance as soon as the issue was discovered.

People aren't generally bad, just misunderstood.

You can if you pay for YouTube Red.

*YouTube Red does the music thing, it doesn't keep your heart beating forever. Although, if it did maybe it'd be worth the price.*

If you're like me, you read "Hula Hoop" and picture this:

Apparently "Hula Hoops" are a snack in the UK.

There's a beautiful poem called "The Dash" that you should read:

The Dash
by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

Linda Ellis asks that the poem not be reposted, so please read the entire work on her site:

If the phone were an Android, we wouldn't be having any of this drama...

...because the FBI would have already been in.
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/02/18/what-if-the-fbi-were-dealing-with-an-android.html
http://recode.net/2016/02/21/what-if-san-bernardino-suspect-had-used-an-android-instead-of-an-iphone/

(Some Android phones are secure, but many are not. A lot don't even encrypt data. So it depends entirely on the phone, but it's likely the FBI would have had an easier time getting in than they have with the iPhone.)

This is heavily exaggerated. Please do not read one side of a story and consider yourself informed:
http://www.snopes.com/captain-america-deemed-offensive/

They were mainly concerned with the "ammunition belt", which, while harmless, probably did go against a school policy since its weapon related.

The writer of the post seems to be misleading readers, as they didn't even mention an ammunition belt. (This is his sister who wrote this, so it's obvious she's on his side.)
