Kudos to your friend. I completely believe in letting older people sit, but that old person had zero class given the situation, and respect is earned. At an elderly age there are no excuses to not have learned kindness and that the world owes you nothing. I would have told her to go ask someone else.

I feel like at certain places where they expect you to leave the stuff on the table because there are no garbage cans available to the customers, the least you can do is put any loose items together in one place. In this instance, the napkins and wrappers in the cups.
