If you don’t have leverage and try to exert leverage, you fall on your face.
The main leverage Cuba had was the USSR. The location of Cuba made it a strategic point at one time for exerting pressure on the USA and potentially a tactical vulnerability to the USA in a war against the USSR.
It was the backing of the USSR that in large part kept the USA away as a direct conflict with Cuba meant likely a conflict with the USSR.

Why would the US or any other country pump money into a hostile nation to support the growth of someone who openly is clear that when and if they ever got big enough- they’d try to kill you or overthrow you..?
What would the US get out of it? Some cigars? Another place to import oil from? Cuba needed medicines and food and raw materials, but what did the US need from Cuba? Spoiler alert- after almost 100 years of embargo… it seems not much.
It’s called leverage. You know who plays tough with someone who they need things from that doesn’t need anything from them? Generally- foolish.

And it very much falls on the communists. Why? Because often- usually- when you sanction someone- they sanction back. The US sanctioned the Soviets and the Soviets sanctioned the US. The US managed without Soviet goods. How is the USSR doing…? Because the communists proposed this grand scheme of self sufficiency. Almost every communist country- Cuba included- kicked off their grand plan by purging various “elites” like intellectuals and pushing citizens to take up farming and “production” based jobs. They refocused their industries to nationalized self sufficient structures. And one after the other and in cycles they went through famine and scarcity. Their self sufficient economies were not sustainable and relied upon foreign aid not just for modern standards of living but basic survival.

The US had sanctions and actions against other communist nations and had deployed military forces to combat communism in Asia at this point.
The US stance on communism was clear, and even if the US was not opposed to Cuban communism, the revolutionary government was very much anti American. Hostile.
So what was the US to do? Start another war? Regardless of “victors” that would certainly have cost lives and caused all manner of harm. Sanctions are a way to to avoid violent conflict by making your stances known and applying pressure without violence.

That’s sort of true but also..,, not? After that Cuban revolution, Cuba seized US owned assets such as oil production facilities and nationalized them without any compensation to the US or owners of those facilities. Then the US embargoed them. Now- it is more complex than that. There is a fair argument that the US gained those assets in less than fair ways and was exploiting Cuba and her people. The US had stopped oil exports to Cuba before the embargo as the revolution kicked off.
Lots more history. But let’s keep it simple. The revolutionaries espoused a communist ideal antithetical to US philosophy and interests and in direct opposition to the American government and country as it existed. Joining with our massive enemy who we were in enduring war with for global power balance and way of life- very existence even.

So I mean- it isn’t to say that illegal drugs aren’t generally a poison and a threat. It is an unregulated industry where your average worker has little or no knowledge beyond anecdotal observation.
It isn’t to say that the drug supply chain doesn’t involve death and crime or tend to generate more.
It isn’t that people can’t hurt themselves or others while on drugs or that lives don’t get destroyed or that all drug dealers are super great people.
It’s that the conception of all drug dealers as such tends to lead to overly harsh treatment that often causes more problems than it solves.
So certainly many people are surprised by their first experiences or encounters of proximity to drugs and drug dealers by the disparity between reality and what is commonly portrayed or taught and that is actually a big problem because drugs can be very dangerous and illegal drugs trade causes alot of harm.

But it’s harmful too because of how we view and treat drug dealers and how the justice system treats them. Because the perception is this gangster mastermind or predator, a career criminal and poisoner who lives to harm others. When probably they are just some person who in one of many ways found themselves selling drugs.
They have friends and responsibilities and a life and routine and often this is just part of that. They likely don’t even particularly like selling drugs. They may or may not enjoy aspects of it or certain potential perks, but it usually isn’t their life. They usually like to watch sports, spend time with friends and family, travel, watch movies, listen to music….

So we set kids up so when the people most likely to offer them drugs do so, it’s not what they are prepared to look for or guard against. It isn’t generally a guy in s pimp suit trying to tell you he has some candy for you or a “jock” saying that if you were cool you’d do it. And we set these expectations of what drugs are like that fall apart the moment anyone takes drugs or spends time sprung others that do unless you’re a non user who hangs around crack heads all day.

Taking a relatively benign drug like weed, it is hard to get into much trouble in life with weed. It can be done but is hard.
But coke- coke can easily spiral into a very bad place health wise and life wise. Or it can be an ocasional party drug. But can you imagine the outrage of schools taught kids that coke can be fun but isn’t great for your health, that if you’re going to use use from a trusted source and consider using test kits for purity, and never use cocaine more than X times a month or some other guideline to avoid being a coke head and mitigate heart damage but still be able to take a bump here and there?
So we tell kids it’s evil and they get some- not from a sleazy rapist with a tiger in an abandoned warehouse but from the cute guy/girl at school or their friends or from a parents stash etc. and they try it and have a fun night and don’t feel addicted or the need to do anything for more- and the trap is potentially set.

The major harms there are that when trying to warn young people about drugs, intuition and data show that such exaggerated approaches backfire.
Firstly, as this meme suggests- when you lie to people and their own experience contradicts what you told them- you lose trust and they doubt what you say- even the true stuff. Telling them just one use Can make you an addict or that you’ll die or ruin your life or that drugs aren’t fun etc etc- when they see friends and people around them not unraveling or becoming violent killers and rapists or bums, being happy and having fun, not being addicts- or have those experiences themselves- then your entire eduction on drugs becomes lies even the true parts.

The “pusher” is a somewhat rare trope outside of areas like sex trafficking and slavery. There is enough demand and curiosity for drugs that clients are not really a general issue. Why sell drugs to people you need to convince? That’s lots of work and they may report you. You know who rarely reports the dealer? People looking for dealers to buy drugs from to use. And your clients will often use drugs socially and take the initiative to find new users through curiosity or peer pressure etc.

That’s sort of the lie that is a harm to many.
Drug dealers tend to get conceptualize as hardened sociopathic criminals and often as cartoon evil- people who exist just to deal drugs and cause harm. Always scheming how to make more addictive or deadly drugs or push drugs on “innocent people” or trick new clients. Most drug dealers just want or need money. Some live in poverty and fit that trope but many are middle class or wealthy and just want pocket change or a second income. Many middle or upper class drug dealers don’t even necessarily prioritize the money so much. For them it can be a way to meet people, network, get invited to parties or travel in certain social circles.

TL:DR- the American game of “Football” was called “Football” First and what most of the world knows as “Football” was introduced to Americans by the British as “Soccer” because that’s what the British called the game.
Both games are a type of football, as well as Rugby, which was originally called “rugby football” then changed to “Rugger” and then to the modern “Rugby” because it was a fad in Britain to shorten words and add “er” and the fad passed in part because they didn’t like that it caught on in America.

And so now, a hood century plus later, people around the world commonly get flustered that American just has to make up a special name for the game they all know as Football and has the audacity to name their predominantly American game “Football” when the whole world knows that stupid “American word” Soccer is the REAL football! Except it isn’t. It was called Soccer and America kept calling it soccer and made a game called Football and the Brits knocked off our games name and then everyone assumed we stole the name.

But of course travelers brought soccer to America and people did play it and know of it. The Brits called it Soccer so we called it Soccer. And then that cool slang fad died out, and it was uncool because those traitorous uncultured Yanks were saying soccer, and it hurt the Brits feelings that we called our game “football” like it was THE football. So they started calling Soccer Football.
So of course they called it that in their colonies and territories and wherever they traded and went in their global empire. So most of the world started calling Soccer “Football” too.

Simple. Americans didn’t really have those games. As many are aware Soccer and Rugby weren’t the most well known and to this day aren’t the most popular sports in America. We didn’t really have them. So we made our own football. And because we are Americans, instead of some poncy lords giving it a grand long title and then having livable street urchins slang it up, we just called it what it was. Football. If you said Football in America- what else were you talking about? If you only have one thing to eat you’d likely just call it “food,” no other food exists so no need for special names.

For example think of the game we know as Rugby or football aka soccer.
Rugby was called Rugby football and became known as “Rugger,” and Football aka Soccer was called “Association Football” by the Brits.
They took asSOCiation and added “ER” and made… Soccer, in a complex linguistic mess up that could only be British English.
So why is it now Football (American), Football (Soccer) and Rugby then?

Football was a type of game like saying “Board Game” or “Video Game.” Rugby is a type of Football too.
It just basically meant a game PLAYED on foot as opposed to on horseback (like polo) not literally that you played with your feet.
The English used to say “Soccer,” that’s where Americans got the name from.
The limeys liked all these silly word games and rhymes. Ever heard “Cockney” slang? That’s an example. Why does Richard get shortened to Dick or William to Bill? Richard>Ric(k) and then through silly British Rhyme games>Rick>Dick.
William to will and will rhymes with Bill.
It was the to die for awhile for Brit’s to add “er” to words. They thought it sounded cool. So they side the same thing. They had a bunch of different ball games that didn’t use horses.

If you could have any anime power you could have the power to transport between worlds.
Of course it says “any anime power” and “an anime world” so it doesn’t actually say you get to pick. If it is random of any power or any world, taking either pill would be a HUGE and dangerous risk.

While I think the whole concept is daffy and many others may agree, it isn’t my place to decide how others live. If two people chose to live within this religious system and those were the rules-
The priest is clearly wrong.

You can possibly get the priest in trouble with the church, and it is likely that their flock would lose trust in them if they knew their confessions may not be private. That’s largely why confessions are private. So that people can confess their earthly sins with some measure of anonymity because usually confessions imply that you will go to “hell” or similar if you don’t receive penance and you must confess to do that. So instead of making people go to hell because they are embarrassed or worried about secrets getting out, a sacred confidence was created by the church to allow anyone to say anything and receive their penance so that they might be judged by god but have a chance to repent.

So can you take recourse legally? Hard to say. I mean- in America you can sue anyone for anything. The suit may be refused by the court or it may be tossed out or it may be heard and lost, but you can literally sue someone for waving hello at you if you want to waste your time and money and possibly be subjected to legal penalty or recourse for frivolous legal action or harassment.

.. in a morally consistent manner, and others may outright forbid the priest from doing so.
Of course, in theory most such rules have loop holes. If I tell you that I will throw water on Dave as a prank when he walks into the office and you see Dave in the parking lot and tell him to bring his umbrella inside- if Dave figures out what is going on- you didn’t divulge anything I told you in confidence did you? Of course that’s a silly example- but it illustrates that it is entirely possible to pass information without directly violating any sort of direct confidence. One can quibble on semantics but rules and laws are at their heart semantics.

Depending on the religion and jurisdiction.
Multiple faiths use the term “parish” and observe confession.
In Catholicism- the “big one” often pictured with confession and penance, a priest violating the seal of confession will generally be severely punished and default excommunication is generally the prescribed penalty unless there are very specific circumstances.
That said not all faiths or denominations of a faith observe these rules and the laws of various jurisdictions vary. For example in some places a priest cannot be forced to provide information from a confession even by a high court or in legal matters. In others priests can be compelled or forced to break the seal.
Under various jurisdictions and faiths or denominations or even congregations there may be rules about when a priest may be obligated to divulge information from a confession. Some might require that reports of sexual abuse or certain crimes be reported. Others might allow priests discretion in acting..

So while America is not the “good guy” in the modern world history of Cuba- bet that the Soviets and Cuban revolutionaries and various south and Central American or other communist powers involved in the Cuban revolution all have a lions share of the blame too.
