Okay, now on with the post. "Oophaga histrionica" - can you paint with all the colors of epilepsy? These frogs' existence is quite checkered. They are critically endangered, being found only in the El Chocó region of western Colombia. They begin their life on the forest floor in the leaf litter. Once hatched, the female will carry their tadpoles one by one on their back to water pools accumulated within the leaves of bromeliad (yeah, bro-meliad) plants. There they'll stay until they grow into full-fledged froglets. (As if their lives weren't hard enough, some of them end up as henchfrogs for the notorious supervillain known as the Croaker - who, by the way, was a real character on DC Nation's Farm League)

Without this highly detailed illustration, they're almost impossible to tell apart.

Thought to have gone extinct in the 1950s, they have been rediscovered in 2011. As they are the only surviving members of the ancient genus "Latonia," they are also considered a living fossil. (They're quite sturdy, despite looking like a pastel porcelain figure you'd find on a Jewish grandma's shelf)
