Seriously though, I am glad to some degree that the show didn't focus on romance all that much. Ash just saw girls as either friends, rivals, or enemies (like Jessie or Cassidy from Team Rocket), just like he did with guys. It was pretty progressive in that way.

Interesting because the Nordic countries (which are kingdoms - you know, monarchies; constitutional monarchies, but still) have a higher rating than other, um, self-proclaimed democracies.
