Just to clarify for people who might be confused, the law, copied and pasted above, with extraneous words stripped away, states as follows, verbatim, "No person shall participate in the giving of any food to an elector" and "No person shall participate in the giving of any drink to an elector".

If you read the text carefully, you'll see the law is not limited to people soliciting votes. It needs to say "by participating" not "or participate" to limit its scope to people soliciting votes.

The law goes on to set penalties for participating in the giving of food or drink to an elector at up to a $5,000 fine and/or up to one year in jail.
