That’s what happened to us too! We got one kitty, put her in the crate in the back and she wouldn’t stop crying. We turned around and got her sister and she was completely fine after that! They ended up hating each other though, funny story.

This tactic doesn’t really work on bullies when they spread rumors about you, talk about you just far away from you so you can kinda hear what they’re saying and know it’s about you but can’t hear the specifics, and socially isolate you
