In the past five years the conservative right, in the US, has separated children from their parents, attacked LGBTQIA+ rights with reckless abandon and staged a coup attempt among other things. How is that not more extreme then in the previous years? And how exactly have the left been more extreme?

Yes, but the left hasn't changed. Their politics is still about publicly funding access to basic necessities while the right keep doing more extreme shit everyday.
