My seven year old had to change schools because I felt like her teacher was bullying her. The last straw was when she was sent home and suspended because she was sitting at her desk reading quietly during recess, but teacher wanted her to go out.

I don't get why it's a dick thing to say. I think it's lovely. The only thing my folks have said they'd give my kids is a ride to a foster home if I ever couldn't care for them.

Fast food is not that cheap. As a poor person, I've lost weight from insufficient calories. Beans and rice is cheap; fast food was a luxury.
To be honest, when I had food stamps, I was overweight. With a generous food budget, it was super easy to buy "cheap", convenient, unhealthy foods. And lots of them.

Okay, I know it's a joke, but these two articles are about two different things. While the *different* authors disagree about whether paid family leave us beneficial overall, neither is actually a persuasive essay for or against.
The first article questions why companies like Starbucks offer paid family leave for their corporate employees, but not their retail store employees, the "everyone" in the title referring to everyone within a single company from hourly to president.
The second article cites research that is showing that, while well-intentioned, paid family leave is costing young women their jobs because they're more costly to employ compared to men or older women.

The "street homeless" are actually a small portion of our countries homeless population. They are often suffering from mental illness and addiction and keeping a job is nearly impossible. Many, many homeless people are living in cars and couch surfing and you see them at their jobs every day but you don't know they are homeless because you have this ignorant idea that homeless people are drug addicts who don't work and are less valuable people who don't deserve care and love and humanity.

I'm not exactly certain *why* we should keep people alive who don't want to live. Because *society* is uncomfortable with death? Because *some people* will be sad? Yes, there are laws that day is wrong to commit suicide, but laws are not always correct as they are and need to be corrected as society gains understanding.
