Someone tried to impersonate a proff at my university to get a test moved back... 11 comments

To be honest, sending e-mails from any e-mail adress is extremly easy, so it's not that hard of an attempt to make. The problem is anyone answering this e-mail will write to the actual professor who would then notice the scam (if you're stupid enough to add the teacher to the mail-list then....).
It's however not a stupid attempt, if you do it on a such enough notice that the teacher isn't made aware, and most students believe then they will have no choice but to give the whole class a second chance, as they can't fail the students that believe in it.
And making it in an untraceable way shouldn't be too hard, using a proxy, and perhaps a public computer.

Isn't the whole point solving the task? 12 comments

This popped up a while back, and some good comments defending the teacher were actually given, so here goes :
Unless the dude can have his method for solving the problems proven to work in EVERY case (every single one, no exception), and have that peer reviewed then he can't use his method. Maths is a lot of small tools and rules that you add together to make complicated stuff, his method might work for now, but how will it behave when you start doing more complex things ? Because if you can't use it then, then not knowing the 'official' method will become a real problem.
Now it might be a bit harsh to fail him, since if he did come up with his own method the dude just might be a genius, but it's not all black and white as you all seem to mention.
If a teacher fails you because you used a different method than the one taught in class BUT that other method has been proven to be equally valid then the teacher is a bad teacher. But that's a BIG but.

I don't understand this train of thought. Why consider ourselves bad ? Sure we change our environment, a LOT. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's what makes us the dominant species.
Progress and technology aren't 'unnatural', not more than a wasp nest is unnatural. It wouldn't happen if it weren't for a particular animal, but its natural for the animal. We destroy a lot around us, to makes things better for us. And that allows our species to prosper.

Drunk or high (not to the point of being passed out) is consensual sex... Or are you gonna tell me that all the people who hook up at nightclubs are all raping each other ?

More like this guy is on tinder which people kinda use to hook up. So he is saying either this is a hookup, or this is a job.

I used Opera Navigator, it has a built in VPN that worked for me. It's a little slow tho (if you want fast youre gonna have to pay, broadband is expensive). That way I had facebook and google and whatnot running on opera, while I had the rest of my internet usage that wasn't limited by china on my usual navigator that didn't use the VPN (hence, not slowed down).
Didn't have one on my cellphone tho.

I was gonna comment just that. I went to china to visit my parents on holiday, and i VOLONTARILY switched to yahoo because i had no choice. After 2 days I gave up and downloaded a SVN tho, takes longer, but seriously I'm too used to googles result to search with something else. I just expect some results to happen and yahoo doesnt have them.

Me and my sisters have a silver set of cuttlery (One spoon, one fork, one knife each), that were all gifted to us for our christening when we were kids. its by far my favorite, and each of us know damn well we better handwash another piece rather than use the other's one x)

2-4 don't really cut it (I'm talking non pure joints, not sure what blunt exactly refers to as I'm not a native speaker). The few times I went wake n bake it took more than that. Considering how much he smokes, I'm assuming he grew some tolerance and probably needs more.
But yeah, that's excessive.

I can do it, not as fast as normal, but still pretty good. It's all about being able to recite blocks of the alphabet in your head (like, you know the song, usually you know blocks of it such as : 'a b c d e f g' ... 'h i j k' ... 'l m n o p'... 'q r s t u v w' ... 'x y z' and then you just revert those on the fly.

@pokethebear I watch a comedy show for fun, but i'm able to respect the fact that they did a pretty good job of vulgarisation on that problem, which is good for people to understand the problem.
Not to mention from what I remember they did a good job at raising an action that actually worked.
Finally, I'm not from the US, so I feel like I can't do much to prevent that, but I also know that it could spread to other countries, so I feel like people who are directly impacted and can fight back should be informed !

If you want to understand the issue better, look for 'last week tonight net neutrality'. They did a piece on it a while back when it was threatened. They didn't make one this year tho :/

Okay but... If you're travelling do you REALLY need to go and play D&D ? It's like people who travel and who NEED to play video games or w/e, at some point it's an addiction...

I mean when we are 3 people on the backseat of a small car (tight space) I like holding it during curves so I don't fall all over the middle guy. Hell, I hold it a lot, it's become a reflex by now.

The mating signal... Is this like "body language interpretation", or is there literally a signal like the batsignal?
Also, someone has to be the first to make the signal, isn't that considered sexual advances?

Its pretty fun to mess with the teachers if you hide cellphones in there (one in each corner of the room), then have a student in the room call the one in the corner opposite to where the teacher is standing at random moments during class.

They are a non-profit, but they are also a huge organization : the CEO has responsabilities and work and skills similar to someone running a big company. If you want someone competent and up to the task you have to pay them accordingly.

I really don't know, so you're probably right, my point was just that the argument "the CEO of this non profit earns a lot of money so don't donate to them" (which is somehow always raised on posts like this) makes absolutely no sense.
