I'm going to get the steak and lobster and I'm paying for it myself.

I posted it because it offered a different perspective in terms of cost. As for the government having more say over your private lives, here in Canada you and your doctor determine your treatment and the bill goes to the government for payment. The government doesn't tell you which doctor(s) you see unless it's outside of the country for a very specialized reason. I believe that healthcare is right and not a privilege.

I do see the silver lining in that I look very young for my age. It just seemed excessive that he didn't believe the drivers license, my passport, AND the police officer who happened to be standing there. Oh well, not worth being around someone quite so paranoid.

I've had a guy ask for my ID because he didn't believe me when I told him how old I was. He didn't believe the ID either...

Some clubs let you rent without a membership while others don't. Keep looking until you find one that works for you. My training is going well. My coaches keep giving me something to work so that's good. I'll get to where I want to go eventually but I think I have my 1st coach's respect for not giving up and for working on my opposite side as often as I am.

Is there a rowing or canoe club in your city? You could look into getting a membership and use their kayaks

Have you considered an inflatable kayak? Still expensive but will at least get you on the water until you can afford what you really want.

My advice is to use your entire body when paddling, upper shoulders, core, and legs so you become more efficient and can go farther with less work. Takes time to train your body to do it this way though.
