It is. He's done research that found differences in the resting state of never medicated schizophrenic patients and a control group that has no schizophrenia. He is now doing research into gridcells and memory. He even got published as a second author in Science! It just came out last week for those of you that read it! It's been a crazy twitter storm ever since :D

No. He has a Ph.D in Cognitive Neuroscience and is specialised in neuroimaging. He does not diagnose or treat people. He can't. He has no medical training whatsoever. He does brain research.

My fiance isn't an MD but he is a neuroscientist and when he writes me notes they look like this. It's a problem.

But it's not as far fetched as it was even 30 years ago. For the last few decades medicine has moved towards allowing people to live longer and that came with the problem that the quality of life went down with age. Now it's moving towards not only living longer but healthier even in old age.
It's the strangest thing to think that perhaps within our lifetime we could see the emergence of new medical treatments that slow the deterioration of our bodies, or allow us to replace parts so we can life longer and feel better.

How long will it be before our technology allows for rejuvenation on a celullar level, instead of merely cosmetic?
And would you use it once your years start adding up?
If yes, which book or movie? 27 comments

The Memory, Sorrow and Thorn Trilogy. I read those books back to back in 3 or 4 weeks (each book is between 800 to 1400 pages) and by the end I found myself in history class wondering why we had not discussed the seafaring people who established the first colonies ruled by men (these seafarers were a race of people who did something similar to the Valerians in A Song of Ice and Fire). Then it slowly dawned on me...That never actually happened and I did not have extensive knowledge of OUR history, I had extensive knowledge of a FICTIONAL history...

Why you should never lie to your parents 18 comments

I think there are more constructive ways to teach your children responsibility that don't rely humiliation and ridicule.
I think that by including such terrible behaviours in the childrens punishment you're not giving them a good example of how to solve problems as an adult. Surely no one wants their children to have to rely on humiliation and ridicule to solve their problems when they grow up.

And the way she mocks her daughters' friends for having absentee fathers... That's just so immature and cruel.
Neh, people like that should just not have children.

That's exactly my point. She was publicly humiliating her daughter, that doesn't look like good parenting to me, that looks like revenge.

Yeah, sell the tickets. Yeah, your kids need to know boundaries and learn about consequences. But do you need to air your dirty laundry on the internet while sounding like a pissed off 12 yr old that's out for revenge? No. You're supposed to be an adult. Adults understand that kids are prone to do stuff that pushes the boundaries they've set up and respond to that calm and firmly. If you're an adult suffering from a 12 yr old's mentality and feel you need to get revenge on your kids for doing something against the rules then maybe you should reconsider if you're mature enough to teach them anything.
This ridiculous parenting makes me sick.

Rihanna apparently is my spirit animal. I went to a beautiful Mosque in Abu Dhabi and I had to wear a burka while there (they have some you can borrow at the entrance).
We went there to see the amazing artwork and arcitecture and made many pics, and for some reason I had to do these Rihanna-like glamour poses for each of them. It's the burka! It makes you act glamorous! Although... on second thought, there were a few thug shots of me doing the west-side hand gesture...

Since they use the word "culture" in the post, I'd guess they're not talking about simply speaking the language.
I wish the poster would elaborate on what he means, though. Certainly they can't mean that someone from a different culture should leave behind their entire cultural heritage and adopt the one from the country they're in? That seems both excessive as well as completely unnecessary to me. Not to mention more than a little xenophobic...

I like what The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy has to say about it:
.
"In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very unhappy and has widely been regarded as a bad move."

I've said it beforeand I'll say it again; men, with all the loose, dangling bits they have, that are also sensitive to overheating, have more need for the freedom skirt and dresses provide.
So boys, take care of your body and give it what it need. Wear skirts and dresses.
