Watching the record cases of COVID-19 like 3 comments

The problem is that lock downs don't work. They only postpone. You're basically just deciding whether or not you want to have a rise in cases now or later. The main reason we're seeing surges is because it's winter. People are now staying more indoors or in buildings with central heating. We saw the same thing happen in hot places already during the summer.

Well, not quite. More correctly would be that a bunch of natives died before the first Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving was most likely only possible because of an epidemic that killed many natives prior the Pilgrims arrival. It was that epidemic that made the natives fear the white man's "God" and was likely why they welcomed them with peace and taught them how to plant and hunt certain local wildlife. But don't take my word for it:

Lobotomy? That looks more like trepanation which was something doctors and priest did. While not an uncommon occurrence, it wasn't exactly common either.

Donate ALL the socks 2 comments

Probably because they are generally the most quickly worn through item of clothing donated. Since most donated clothes come second or third hand, socks just don't make it. No point donating a sock if you have to be careful not to stick your foot through the second hole in the bottom.

This is what happens when you're so desperate to claim your "race" is superior but you can't say that because you'll be called out for your racism. Instead you have to back door yourself into it by claiming things, which are usually completely arbitrary at best, only your "race" is allowed to have. This way you can claim others are racist if they violate your insensate opinions.

Probably would have been even more helpful to show the psi as well. I get surprised all the time by people who can't tell how much air to put into their tires.

Tbh, I hate the word smol. I think it shouldn't exist. That being said I do get that languages evolve and I think it's really neat to see those changes. My hope is that smol is going to be temporary fad and fade out of use. Plenty of words have come and gone so it may fall into that category. If it doesn't? Well, it's not a word I'm ever going to use, outside of an example. I can finally understand the teacher's perspective from my dad's school days when he used to get in trouble by using the word ain't.

If you do something great just to relax or for fun it may not be something you want to make your job. Many people find the move from hobby to job makes the thing less satisfying and in some cases can cause them to start disliking it altogether. There is nothing worse than when your stress relief activity turns into a stress maker.

We had to do something like this when I was in the Army. It was an abdominal exercise we did when we were learning combatives. Let me tell you it was a serious workout. Imagine holding a crunch, then without totally relaxing doing 100 more crunches.

There's a really entertaining channel on youtube where the guy just takes the video from their security camera. It's almost nothing but cars being towed out of their parking lot. They have something like 6 signs indicating that your car will be towed unless you have their parking pass and people still park there. People read the signs after they've parked there and still leave their cars. There was even one where they used to intercom to warn people not to leave their car cause it would be towed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7BPvNotqEc

Some of us remember using those. I also remember using their predecessor the 5.5" floppy disk. Now that floppy was actually floppy.

Frozen is fine. When you have full on ice over the plant it actually protects it somewhat by keeping it at 32F. Frost can cause it to drop below that and kill the plant. Many farmers when they know a frost may be coming will actually turn on their sprinklers to form ice over the plant. Plus many apple trees require cold temps to get a good harvest.

This is amusing to me because prisoners have gotten out of jail for just that reason in that state because of Whitmer's insane rules.

Interestingly there is a fair possibility that there are actually no sharks in the ocean. I rather like the hypothesis of Early Earth but that's the classical romantic in me.

Okay, so I'm American and I was very confused as to why someone was throwing litter. I realized what they were talking about when I got to the word rubbish. Litter, for those not American is a common term for that generally refers to to cat or dog litter. The stuff we use for pets to do their business indoors.
Amusing title. Please chuckle to yourself 6 comments

There actually is a reasonable explanation for some of this. Many aristocrat children were dress up by servants to look exactly like the adults. Wigs, suits, make up, you name it they used it. That being said, the ones in the painting are just ridiculous. They are not proportioned right to be children. My guess is that they are not actually representing children but some kind of artistic representation of little man syndrome or something similar.
