Because no one can be courageous with fear. A fearless dog can't be courageous only stupid. Courage was afraid of everything and yet he didn't let that stop him.

Skipping the rest of the comments and answering the question originally posed. We'd be hosed. There's no Independence Day like comeback. Any advanced race that manages to cross the vast distances to "invade" us would likely only consider us pests at best. Likely about the level we think of raccoons. At worst they'd ignore us since nothing we could do would even reach the level of inconvenience.

Okay, if I saw NEW AGE! TANTRIC! STRAWBERRY! DIESEL!!!! on a label you can bet I'd be taking a second look. I may not buy it depending on what's in it but you'd have my attention.

Only sometimes. Many times you're just content enough with what you've got. While you could work harder, longer, there's just no drive to get more, make more. So while you know you could do more, you have the ability, the smarts, you just have no drive to do so.

The ability to know you could do so much better but don't have the ambition or drive to bother.

Makes a great excuse though. Especially since most people have never read it, many won't ever read it, and lots of people are proud of the fact they don't read books at all.

One looks like he just got you to sell your soul to him and the other is watching you, waiting while you do something stupidly dangerous that's about to kill you so he can collect your soul.

Luke wasn't the chosen one. He didn't bring balance to the force or any of the stuff the prophesied one was supposed to do. Vader was the chosen one, who became bad, then brought balance when he killed the emperor. Luke was just the hero who became the catalyst to make the prophesied one do his job. The only correlation between Dune and Star Wars is that they both take place in space and not on Earth. There ends the similarity.

Speculation, since we can't know. The sacking of Baghdad though was a huge blow. They were performing rudementary cataract surgery, had entire groups of scholars doing nothing but collecting and copying books and scrolls then passing them onto the schools. Then the Huns showed up, then they had some plagues, then came the zealots.

Ya'll don't even know. Those things weighed a ton and it was all lopsided. They didn't have places to grip them and if they did it was usually a single hand slot on the back which meant if you tried to pick it up it'd fall forward onto the screen cause that's where the weight was.
