Hmm, never thank the Fair Folk. Saying "thank you" implies they did something for you. It puts you in their debt. Real or not it becomes real when you accept it by saying "thank you". Instead you can show gratitude by complimenting the service or item eg.. "The coffee here is always the best" etc...
Never, never, never receive anything before you pay. Pay first, then take your items. Also be sure they actually tell you the cost. Just because it's on a sign doesn't mean that that is its price. In the mortal world where there's a sales tax makes this easier because most people can't figure out the total.
Bonus: If you personally hand them a tip and they accept, that puts them in your debt. That's why there's a tip jar. If you choose to leave your money in the jar that's your prerogative, but if they take it from you it becomes a gift from you to them.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, some of us have more because we're too lazy to be washing the silverware after every meal.

I read that as Tiny Lord of Tiredness at first. I think that fits quite well too.

Just curious what the ctrl+f "you deserve" in the male self-help book gets you. And the "you have to" search in the female book. I mean, I don't particularly care about the real point of this meme because I don't read self help books, but you need to be even.

This "style" of thought? I'm not sure what you'd call it is something we're seeing more and more often in today's culture. The premise that if something, anything, ever goes wrong while using any "system" the solution is not to address the issues as they come up but to abolish the entire system and start over. Often, by recreating the same system but with extra steps or one that relies on everyone thinking similarly and coming to same conclusions. The catch is it's their system and therefore it's better. Like was said, in theory, alot of the proposed systems do work but in reality it rarely goes like planned and most of time ends in utter failure. Most of the proposed systems are rather logical. If 9 is the desired outcome you just add the appropriate amount to the given number and voila 9. The problem is that when you add people it's more like you have an orange, a 2, and a rock. If 9 is still the desired amount what do you add now?

Anon doesn't appreciate cool sticks 2 comments
lucky11 · 1 year ago
Yeah, that's a good stick. Assuming it's sound, it wouldn't take too much work to make it really nice. Carefully trim the branch remains and knots, sand it down so it's nice and smooth, spray on some lacquer to make it shiny, leather wrap the handle and you've got a fun cudgel. Or just trim and sand and you've got a nice fetch stick for your dog to mangle.
You could get really fancy by carving in the sections between knots before lacquering.

Like I said. community trust and behaviour like this is more common than most believe. You can even see it portrayed in tv shows and movies. That "small town feel" is essentially what we're talking about. Low population size combined with similar if not identical cultural values lead that increased trust and behaviour. This ^ just makes for an easy example because of how homogeneous the Scandinavian countries are.

I want to be upfront this has nothing to do with "race" and everything to do with cultural diversity. It's kind of an unfortunate issue. Societies with multiple cultures tend to have higher crime rates. Societies where the majority of people come from or subscribe to the same culture have less. People inherently place less value on things not of their culture. This can be overcome through a variety of means but it is something that has to be overcome.
The "little ethnic diversity" come into play because there is just that. Scandinavian countries have very little ethnic diversity compared to other European countries. This is especially prevalent outside of the larger cities.

Ah thanks, yeah I didn't bother to google it. But now you've raised by interest in it to the point where I had to see where it came from. The best part is that the word got its start on reddit. It's been shortened from mid-witted coined in a 2012 article and first used in a meme on Jan. 1 2017. https://en.meming.world/wiki/Midwit

It is really cool, nothing can take away from that fact. This is something that having a low population and very little ethnic diversity plays a huge role in though. Community trust and behaviour like this is more common than most believe but is rarely seen in more diverse, larger population, communities. People are still people so I'm sure there are some that take advantage of this setup even where it works. Still it's nice to see that, regardless of why it happens, it still does.
