He very much was a tyrant. If you've read up on his escapades in Gaul you would see just how ruthless a leader he was even before claiming Rome as his.

The vast majority of Confederate troops never owned a slave. Yet they fought and died to 7 comments

You're misconstruing what the post is about. As with most soldiers of most wars. The reason a soldier fights is up to the individual. Now more often then not why they're fighting comes down to whatever propaganda is being shoved down their throats. This post isn't an attack on the confederate soldiers but a confrontation on their belief of it being a justified war.

Alsace-Lorraine, where people had their nationality change 4 times in less than 80 years 5 comments

Alsace-Lorraine is French. Elsass-Lothrigen is the German name for the same region. We refer to it as Alsace-Lorraine therefore it is French.

Can you elaborate on that? Slavery was a contentious issue even amongst the colonial governments before the US existed. As far as I can find at the onset of the US there were 5 free states and 8 slave states.

As far as the church goes for much of European history following the roman empire the church/seminary schools were the only options for education. Like another commentor said churches have been a large part of european scientific innovation but have also at times taken an adversarial role towards science.

I can name a few of em but at the end of the day much of the "battles" were offensives made as the entire front was one giant battle from start to end (on the western front at least)

I get annoyed with my oldest cat. If he sees the bottom of the bowl he gets it in his head that thats it there'll be no more food after this moment so he gorges himself until he vomits. Like you've been around for 12 years there has always been and will be more food in your bowl you psychopath.

Socialism is in the name though 5 comments

So long as you were a full blooded german you had the right to own and/or operate private property. If you were a Jew or any other minority your rights were revoked. Once again this was true until the war necessitated the state run the economy. As happened in all of the waring nations incurring the US.

Considering private properties and private for profit enterprise was encouraged under the Nazi regime until it was untenable due to war constraints says you're wrong.

Honestly Eisenhower, as far as modern presidents go, was a decent one. I always look back to his final speech as president where he talks about the military-industrial complex and the direction he saw the country going in.

Becuase it's all in context. No one says that hitler was great in general but to acknowledge that Hitler was a great orator isn't controversial.
