I agree that we should do something about it, but unfortunately, I don't know what that something is, and I don't have the resources (or commitment, or intelligence, or spunk or whatever it is that would allow me to do it) to figure it out (honestly, I hardly have the whatever it is to figure out how to get financial aid for college, I'm terrible and extremely anxious). Like I said before, I think that there is something that can be done (and you feel like you're doing more for this, because idk, I kind of have this false assumption that if I've heard about something enough, most other people know about it too, and this is one of those things) for the little stuff, but I don't really know how much good posting about this on the internet will actually do. Buuut, if you have an idea for how we could help, please share!

I don't know think it would work well for higher learning, but at least for elementary and middle schools (maybe high schools as well), I saw this suggestion on a point system where you start at zero and gain points and 'levels' kind of like experience gain in gaming. That way instead of always getting worse, you always get better, which would encourage some kids. Doing homework would gain you points, so would tests and other activities and there wouldn't necessarily be a percentage, so there's no "you only got 50% of everything done" it's just based on improving, and learning. There was also a suggestion that everything should be more integrated. Because guess what, when you're reading the Great Gatsby, wouldn't that be a good time to talk about the twenties? And it shouldn't just be core subjects either, it should be set up so that everyone can associate knowledge with something they enjoy so they have motivation to continue learning. Because, yes, we can't provide motivation for

We get some lettuce, broccoli, bananas. My mom is a health-food nut, and she gets a lot of the nuts and trail mix type stuff. I really like sunflower seeds, and there are a lot of fruits and vegetables I do enjoy, but yeah, I'm definitely a meat person (I don't think I could live without taco salad :P )

It depends on what meat you're buying. Ground beef /is/ cheaper than nuts and leafy greens. Yes, if you're comparing the cost of a nutty salad to a 32 oz steak, the vegetarians have a one-up, but taken from someone who lives on food stamps, you can buy a lot more cheap meat than cheap vegetables (though part of it probably also depends on where you live). However, I realize that if livestock was no longer being fed or maintained, the prices would likely change.

Plus: why not both? Just because others don't have as much as you doesn't mean you can't improve your own situation as well as theirs. It's not like we have to choose which to support. We can speak against child brides /and/ getting harassed. I just think that the people who speak against harassment speak more because no one getting on FS is like "oh, no, we should totally allow child brides everywhere". There's not a whole lot teenagers and 20 somthings who have no way of actually stopping rape or kidnapping can do about this, but raising awareness about gaming might actually make the people online (... the people who use those terms) realize that they should stop.

Which are also more expensive than ground meat.... And it's not like the cows are eating green veggies. As terrible as it is for them, most livestock is fed explicitly corn, because it's cheap and you can grow a lot of it.

The looking/staring line is drawn wherever people are uncomfortable. Don't like, flip your shit if you think someone is staring, but if somebody tells you to please stop staring, do it.

I really doubt that, especially since then there's the problem of getting protein. If we do the same thing for every food animal, that leaves us with nuts and tofu. A number of people are allergic to nuts, and I really don't think they're as cheap as meat anyway, which is code for there is a lot more meat to go around than nuts.

No, there should just be one set of rules: you need to learn what they teach you, which is the point. That's my opinion, anyway.

Except when cows go extinct what are we going to eat? It might be selfish, but the fact is, we can't just let animals go extinct because the alternative is raising them to be food. I think the real answer is to let cows have the space they need instead of cramming them in buildings or fields.

I am an underachiever, but that doesn't mean I'm not smart. I got a D in math despite getting nearly 100% on all the tests because why should I do work "to learn" when I already know the material? And before somebody says "well you're going to have to do work when you have a job" I have one, and my boss has trusted me with training others to do my job (when there are other people who have worked there longer who he could ask) because I'm so good at it. I don't believe in doing /pointless/ work, give me a point, and I'll do the work. But I"m not going to waste my time doing some worksheet to learn a concept I already know.

I'm pretty sure you can't judge how many problems someone has by the color of their skin. Yes, the majority of the time you may be correct, but some of my hispanic friends are better off than some of my white friends.

There's a difference between glancing at and staring. I'm not going to get mad at somebody for glancing at my breasts, but I might ask them to stop, and if they start on some big long rant as to why they should be able to, they better expect some problems. We're allowed freedom of expression, and no one is allowed freedom to sexually harass people (yes, staring counts if it makes someone uncomfortable). No, it's not okay for women to be jerks when you just glanced, but if she's clearly uncomfortable (turns away or asks you to stop), then fucking stop.

I think the underlying message here is that this man is a dickhead who wants to justify staring at boobs in any way he can, instead of just being a respectful and kind human being, but that's just me.

I'm in this weird awkward middle ground where I want to look good, but people looking still makes me a little uncomfortable because of past experiences. But it's not like I'd hold that against them, unless they kept at it after I asked them to stop.

What is it with homosexuals that some people really hate? They're different, that's all.

Also differentiate between people who are skinny and people who have problems. I've got a really fast metabolism and I'm super thin, but I still eat well, and it's not like I'm going out of my way to exercise a bunch. I pretty much lay in bed and eat whenever I'm not at work.

Why does it matter so much what the name is? You can call a group of girls "guys", you can call a movement for equality feminism, get over it. The name isn't important, what it stands for is.

Secondly, being called a slut isn't the main issue in first world countries either. The issue here is being called a slut for being raped, when the rapist is told "oh, she's just a whore, clearly she wanted it and is just claiming you raped her so she can pretend she's not a slut". And before you're all "that doesn't happen" it did, to my best friend, who was /fifteen/ when she had this guy's kid.
