"Wisteria won't cling to a wall so won't damage it like ivy does but this means it'll need some form of support. You could use a trellis or vine eye screws and wires" - source; my mum

True. What I meant by houses is that for example my middle school was ground level but wouldn't necessarily say it was a bungalow

@peachypersimmon public school is the same as private, Eton is a public school. 'State school' is the usual term for any non-fee paying school, or academy now those exist as well.

Also @shiftingsands, they never changed it to metric I don't think so it wasn't a case of 'keeping' it metric. I think actually that might have had something to do with cars all being imperial and it would have caused problems if the road signs were all suddenly metric?

I'm not sure shiwan, I'm sure there must be some historical reason. I use imperial all the time because that's what my mum and dad used (they were at school pre-decimalisation) and can picture imperial more easily sometimes. But for length it's a right mixture because I know roughly how far a mile is but would rather work in metres for if I was swimming, cm for measuring e.g. craft projects, feet and inches for room sizes. I just use whatever I can picture easiest to be honest.

Apart from on road signs, speedometers, when talking about how much babies weigh, bust size, most people when they talk about how tall they are and how much they weigh, when we are buying beer in a pub or milk, measuring TVs...

There is a book called Ella Minnow Pea which; as part of the plot, gradually uses fewer and fewer letters as it goes on.

Maybe also because 'Alright' is more a British turn of phrase, at least I don't tend to hear it on as many US shows and films.

When Chuck Norris does push ups he's not pushing himself up, he's pushing the world down.

This was really interesting but until I saw what they were saying written down there were some bits I didn't understand, and the whore joke went straight over my head until he explained that in OP the h would be dropped.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt is his most famous and arguably one of the best picture books. He also wrote a picture book about losing his son to leukemia I believe
