The "spoiler paradox" 14 comments

If you want me to Google something real quick I can but in my experience there is tons of value in evaluating terrible adaptations (see WWZ etc.), discussing themes, ripping apart CGI over character development...the list goes on. For young reluctant readers it works as an incentive and reassurance when watching intense or scary movies. Having a heads up, rather than a spoiler can be beneficial.

Have a kid read the book first before watching it...all kinds of benefits there...and you get to watch their expressions which is awesome.

Middle school is a void. During that time in our lives we are so hormonal and socially awkward that our self image overrides everything. It's like someone walking on stilts for the first time. We look and feel "different" until we later grow into our body and find our niche. It's a wonder we remember anything at all from that time. Plus, the History channel is awful.

I followed this post after commenting on it awhile back. I don't know if the original poster intended to create such an outlet for this topic but I am wowed by the responses.
I don't know if it's just the jargon being thrown around or what but I think we may have some teachers on here.

I agree...thanks for the discourse. Now back to more Trump memes and cat videos. Also, I would like to request more weird stuff found in weird places under weird circumstances.

You can do both. It's possible to have a special needs student with an additional one-on-one teacher to provide instructional and physical support (bathroom, cafeteria, transportation) along with an army of therapists (speech, physical, etc.) at the school. I agree that "handicapped kids" get extra help in school. They will also get assistance after school is over for the rest of their life because they require it. We don't know how good we have it until we can see how someone without our ability still have success. Now...if we can have that experience in a school and have students support "handicapped kids"...that's compassion.

I see your point. But if your going to get into the conversation about providing accommodations and therapy then I think you're missing my point. I think the original post was searching for a reason why.

The benefit of having a special needs student mainstreamed in the regular classroom is mutual. Once you have witnessed the difficult student help the special needs student, then you will understand. It's about compassion, which is in short supply and can't be taught from a book.

Right. I'm not saying these things didn't happen. I just wanted to hear from b.b.corpse about their interpretation of the graph. The graph suggests that Christians, which is the only religion noted, destroyed growth. If you look at the period before The Dark Ages I think you would agree that there was a good bit of evidence other than Christianity that the Romans were screwed for lots of reasons.
Please don't confuse faith with religion. Religion has been hijacked for most of it's existence and manipulated for all kinds of nefarious purposes, including all of the periods listed above. I can link evidence after a quick google search. *Quick hit: Tithes and other offerings have been used for personal gain, but they have also been used for supporting the community. This includes the scientific community. Not every narrative can be easily understood through a graph.
As a person of faith I, like b.b.c., have a problem with how religion is used.
