Pope can also give himself permission. It’s a class skill that buffs self and party for 100% holy damage and 20% chance to convert enemy units to your factions
The crap thing is that the longer the pope stays on the board, the chances of your army rebelling stacks per turn and the generals might turn against you, split into warring factions till the end of the game
