my mom hit me with this one in conversation one time and asked “so what if you paid off all your student loans and the next day they cancelled the debt, wouldn’t you think it unfair?” i said “no, i’d say ‘good for you, everybody else. that fucking sucked and i’m glad you don’t have to deal with it’”

I watch the video, and technically it counts his first-degree murder, because he set up the situation and had the weapon ready and took the shot as he had planned, but given the circumstances he was More or less given a free pass.

So sad it had to end like this!
I’ve seen the movie with Martin Freeman and Zooey Deschanel, and I’ve read the books, and the two are almost nothing alike but both carry the same spirit of the other, which somehow made it all the more perfect. The book was an absolute mash up of this nonsense and was so much fun to read and the movie was exactly the same way, and honestly most of the time I get pretty upset when the movie doesn’t match the book if it’s a really good book, but I really didn’t care of this case.

And what could be more right, more driven by love, then Christ giving His life to save the souls of every man, woman and child?

Yes, because it is the accepted truth. Do you have evidence to contradict this? I’d be open to hearing it. If not, then what purpose does your argument serve besides attacking the proverbial straw man?
If your argument is “what kind of person in their right mind would willingly go through something that?” Then you should read or listen to an interview with Kyle Carpenter, the Marine Corporal who jumped on a hand grenade to save his squad mates and received the Medal of Honor for his actions. No, I am not saying that Cpl. Carpenter is the risen Christ, but I am giving an example of the kind of selfless sacrifice for the greater good at play here, made when the person giving their life knows what is at stake. Bottom line they were willing to do it because it was the right thing to do, and done out of love for their fellow man.

JFK wasn’t a willing participant and no sacrifice was made for the greater good. His was a senseless death at the hands of a lunatic. Your argument is an example of non sequitor fallacy, I believe.
You flew too close to the sun on this one, my friend.

It is the superior siege engine 3 comments

*surprisingly tricky getting the ratio of the counterweight, height, length of the arm and size and weight of the projectile just right so it didn’t just launch it straight up or slam it into the ground. The trebuchet was absolutely the greatest siege engine of its time and 10/10 will absolutely build one with my kids.

I had a 5th grade class project where I had to research and create something from the Middle Ages and bring it in with an explanation of what it was, why it mattered, etc. Most of the class got their parents help make traditional clothes or food, one kid built medieval replicas of a sword and mace and one kid researched a song sung in farming communities which was really cool.
My dad and I built a 4ft tall trebuchet that could launch a filled water bottle about 200ft, using the updated version relying on weights to provide the momentum for the swing instead of manpower like the romans used, and if we had the time we would have experimented with other designs, such as adding wheels to allow the fulcrum to shift which could have extended the range by ~ 25% or a version that was designed by never attempted in the age that used a series of rail-like structures to allow for pivoting along the x and y axis that could extend the range even further. I loved building that thing it was

The willing sacrifice of one so mighty as Christ whom gave His life here on earth so that we may be free from an everlasting death and have the chance at everlasting life* is the symbol of a religion.
Yes. Crucifixion was a terrible, horrible, method of torture and execution, one that was humiliating and excruciating. This said in many ways it was because of that that it became the symbol of love and faith, once Christ had stooped so low as to allow Himself to be crucified, because He suffered that pain and humiliation out of His and His Father’s love for mankind.
Also, think on this; Christians for a few centuries after the Ascension of Christ were hunted and targeted by Romans and Pharisees alike. In many ways their quiet practice of faith was a rebellion of its own, and what better symbol of defiance against that kind of tyranny would there be than the symbol of the torture the Romans and others used to try and break them into submission?
