I don't know, man. I thought that the movie was great. It deviated from the books, but it's a fine standalone. Sometimes movies are better if they deviate from the books, and maybe the writers thought that it would work best like that. Like, have you read the original HTTYD books? Literally the only similarity between the books and the movies are the names. And they're both great as standalones.
