It was the opposite for me, I was borderline obese on BMI measures so I cut down on caloric intake and made it a gradual loss of weight and people were telling me that I should eat something for once and that I was just skin and bone (when I was still like 24 BMI made of fat). People were quick to call me anorexic for trying to not be overweight, even though I was healthy with my intake and didn’t do any harm. Out of my entire 210 —> 150 pound weight transformation, only one person made a positive comment about it ever. At least I know that I’m healthier.

If it wasn’t for puberty and the massive amount of bodily changes that could send a truly dysphoric person spiraling, I would be much more comfortable having it be even later. It takes so long to maturely understand it and see the difference between a feminine guy and a person with gender dysphoria. It’s less of an identity but an actual illness which has the treatment of gender transition, just preferring traits of the other gender is not inherently dysphoria, something I don’t think the average tween can honestly look into themselves and analyze.

I honestly think that if a kid wants to dress one way over the other (where bullying isn’t an issue) or play with different toys, just let them do it, but don’t make it a gender thing until they make it a gender thing and understand what it means

I live up in Canada, where 7 is quite common and usually nothing more than a comfortable sweater. We would dress like you described if it hit -40 or below here. When humidex and windshield is taken into account, I’ve seen my area anywhere from -43 to 46, so we’ve had hot too!
