There are going to be so many long lasting consequences to this shutdown, we'll be feeling it for at least a decade

Gah! That's not what I meant. Giving blood and providing your spit to a private organization is totally different. I most definitely could have worded that better.

I'm not so sure I agree with the government conspiracy theory, but it is usually not a good policy to give your bodily fluids to any organization.

I was unaware that not complying with a police officers instructions meant that you should be killed on the street with a chokehold while others watched.

Neoliberal policies were endemic in central and south America, especially during the 60s and 70s at the height of Cold War panic. Just look at the Argentine inflation crisis to see what that gets you.

There's a line in the tv show Fargo about how money is the first step being wealthy, then it's power, then it's the ability to completely disappear. We all know the public facing aspects of these companies, but they have so many fingers in the public pie we don't even know about.

A boss of mine used to make us do these mindfulness exercises for 15 minutes before the work day. While everybody else was closing there eyes and "feeling their feet on the floor" I was farting around on my phone. I hate shit like that.

The lyrics are more operatic and theatrical than anything else. Scaramouche is a trickster clown and Bismillah is a Zoroastrian god. Like most Queen songs, the lyrics are meant to fit the music, not the other way around. But the good thing about lyrics is that each person can find their own meaning in them.

Apple components are manufactured in a facility that had to install a net to stop people from committing suicide, Coke routinely buys indigenous water sources then reroutes them to bottle Dasani. All big business uses exploitation, and the owners know this. They can pretend all they want that they're woke t-shirt wearing normal folks, but being a billionaire changes people.

Because business is all about one thing, and that is making a profit at the expense of everything else. There are no morals in business, which is why most liberally inclined people who do start businesses create what's called a triple bottom line, where each bottom line is just as important as the last. They can be profit, environmental impact, social justice, any number of things.

Big business doesn't lend itself to liberal ideology. That's not exactly a new insight.
