Rich people paying for their kids to get in isn't a new thing. They got caught, and suddenly everybody is just SHOCKED that our country and the higher ed industry isn't a pure meritocracy.

Yes, in the US anyway. There are special exceptions, like for children who physically cannot receive vaccinations and those with religious exemptions.

You can't encourage and educate because these people are willingly ignorant. It's not that they don't understand, it's that they won't understand. There are hundreds of ways for people to get the information, and most of these parents are well off enough to know where to look for it.

When the top layer of your screen easily peels off and looks like a manufactuers screen protector, that's a design flaw.

Yeah, religious tax exemption can be hairy because it essentially legalizes belief. When Scientology was seeking their exemption, they brought in religious experts from around the world to testify in Congress that they were, indeed, a religion. This is all also separate from a religious movement, which is it's own thing.

Actually actually, I was talking in a legal sense, not a spiritual.

Actually, non-profit and religious tax exemption are two separate things. The idea is similar, but not the same thing. Religious organizations are guaranteed a more hands off approach because of the First Amendment, not because of their role in society. It's funny, because the only thing that seperates a cult from a religion in the US is their tax exempt status.

The idea behind that is the government can't have a stake in any religious institution, which could lead to governmental interference. I don't care about churches being taxed, but I do think they should have to release their financials in order to retain that tax exempt status.

I like how the argument is "we've been historically shitty to so many people for so long that we don't have the capacity to help new people." But they won't help those homeless or those vets or anybody really; they'll just use them as a prop and an excuse.

Nah. Assange released the DNC emails and refused to release the RNC emails because he said there was nothing important in them. He also has a love affair with the Russians and raped a lady. He purposefully picks and chooses which documents to release and how to market them. He's not a hero, he's just a fancy shit poster.

I used to tease my college girlfriend that she crossed the street like a cartoon character: eyes closed, head up, and swinging her arms wildly.

I had an interview with a mock study abroad counselor once when I was like 12 in order to get some experience in talking with a professional adult. She asked me a question about the country (Germany), and I didn't know the answer, but I knew adults wanted one immediately when asked, so I sputtered and made something up. She just looked at me and asked "do you not know?" I was extremely embarrassed and said no. She then asked "do you want to," and showed me a book with the info. She told me that the most valuable thing you can do is learn, and not knowing something is the first step towards knowing that thing, and sometimes you have to tell people that.

The city government is thinking about fining parents who don't vaccinate their children. Brooklyn, and more to the point Williamsburg, is a hellhole of new money and kids whose first name all end with -leigh and -lyn.
