When you live in Florida going to Disney is not that expensive. You can drive there. They give big discounts to Fl residents and if you have a family member that is a nurse or a teacher that lives in FL (to buy the tickets) it’s crazy cheap.
I guess I don’t know if all that is still true, but it used to be. You could also by an annual pass for super cheap it was about a ticket and a half.
It’s been a decade or so since I’ve been/lived in FL, so it may be different now, but it used to be super attainable to residents.

I think this every time we get a fax at work. Of course we have an automated system that converts it to an email and emails it to use.

There’s a nearby farm that has acres of daffodils and they invite folks to come visit in the spring. We would take my kid to play in the flowers and take photos. He loves nature so always enjoyed it but one year he didn’t want to go and we couldn’t figure out why. He really insisted we not go.
He really loves dinosaurs and watched anything dinosaur. One of the documentaries he loved had a segment about Edaphosaurus and they were preyed upon by the vicious dimetrodon.
So, he thought we were asking if he wanted to go see the Edaphosaurus and didn’t want to go because of the potential for dimetrodons.

If only that were true.
The point I’m making is that just because some people beat their children doesn’t mean that every parent who disciplines their child should be arrested. At least I think that’s the general consensus. And just because some jerk names their kid vagina doesn’t mean that every parent that encourages children to pursue activities based on interest and aptitude (rather than gender) is harming their kids.
There are plenty of people that name their kids names that traditionally match their gender and still don’t force them into traditional roles. That doesn’t mean they force them into opposite roles. Just that they aren’t forced into roles.

Sure, and there are people who beat their children, for their own good–to make them behave. And people who sexually abuse their children to show them what love is really like. So yeah, name your kid something abusive because gender blah blah blah.
There are always people who are going to abuse their children in the name of rearing them right, but those people don’t represent the majority.

It’s not about telling children they shouldn’t want to grow up to be in a traditionally male/female role. It’s about telling children they can grow up to be whatever role they fit into best. For children that fit into the stereotypical roles, there’s no dissonance either way. Children that don’t fit into the stereotypical roles get the relief of not feeling wrong/inadequate.
The real problem is when we ( the adults) project onto the children. Maybe we want our kid to be super gender neutral but the girl only wants to wear pink and play with dolls. Well, get out of the way and let her. But what if the boy only wants to wear pink and play dolls? Do we force our ideas of what a boy “should” be on him? And to what end end? Why shouldn’t he play with dolls if that’s what he likes?

You can get the little remakes pretty cheap, but unless y’all are searching using terms other than “Nintendo” I’m not seeing anything less than $65, and most offerings are over $100.

Yeah. I worked retail and I’ve worked in a factory. Straight up, an 8 hour shift on the retail floor (with customers) were more exhausting than 10-12 hours hard labor.

Snakes are pretty wily. We used to have a ball python that would escape with some regularity. It made things interesting. You never knew where she would turn up—coiled around the phone, on top of the bookcase, in the bathtub, in the bed, in the dishwasher...

$900 Ambulance 47 comments

Don’t get me wrong, I think any CEO that makes more than a million dollars year and employs people at a wage that requires public assistance should cut back just a little.
And keep in mind, I’ve been in business a long time, Marketing even. So I’m not ignorant to the need to pay top talent that you can’t replace. But there are plenty of successful models that support employees throughout the organization.
And I also understand that you can’t just raise min-wage a say poof! society’s troubles are resolved!
There’s not a simple answer. Because you’re right about top talents and none of them are going to take a pay cut, but that’s part of the problem.
Also that person that’s asking for $15/hour ($30K/year), can’t afford to use an ambulance if they need it, because their millionaire CEO can’t take a .04% pay cut to offer him health insurance. And when you consider that even insurance partially paid by the company is close to 30% of that income, it’s unreachable.

Really that’s the point of the post. It’s not trying to say that unskilled Labor is worth as much as skilled labor. It simply is not worth same. It is just trying to say that all laborers should be able to earn a livable wage for a full week of labor.
Absolutely paramedics and other skilled/trained laborers should earn more than fast food workers. Paramedics and nurses and cops and teachers shouldn’t have to struggle to pay bills. We should value the work enough to give them a comfortable wage. But that doesn’t mean that fast food workers shouldn’t be able to live without public assistance. And when you’re talking about organizations where the CEO could take a pay cut that amounts to a fraction of a percent and give everyone a substantial raise, without raising costs, it’s really not that unreasonable.
The point here is that we’re arguing with each other over dollars and coins while the empire lords are stacking up fat piles of cash and watching the show.

And, I agree, there’s nothing wrong with choosing not to have sex, or to have sex. It’s just the notion of virginity that I abhor. It’s riddled with shame. (And vampires)
