Last one is super important. How a guy treats his mom, or a girl treats her father, shows how they'll be to a partner/spouse.

Molecular oxygen in the air isn't what protects us from uv light...
Melanin in our skin and the earths magnetic core does. Oxygen provides no barrier agains UV rays.

We don't speak the same language 11 comments

That's exactly what language is. Using a word, a noise, a picture, a sign, to represent an object. When you teach a child to say car, you show them a car. You repeat over and over "car, this is a car, a car has wheels. A car goes vroom. Car." You repeat the word (or sign) and eventually the connection is made that that particular word/noise represents a car.
No, animals do not understand emotions like we do, and they don't feel them like we do. But most anyone who has had a pet can tell you that they can be sad or happy or scared. And animals can be incredibly sensitive to what their owner is experiencing.

True, I don't agree with corporal punishment being used. But instead of filming the child while they drag the cat into the tub, the parent should have put the phone down to rescue the cat and teach the child.

Agreed. Funny, I guess. But the parent is teaching the kid to treat animals badly. Pets are not toys.

Eh, that makes sense. But from the parents perspective, they see the money and work that went into paying for all the things in your room and see it as you not taking care of what they've given you.

Easter egg hunts can get pretty serious 24 comments

We would count all the eggs first, and everyone had a specific number they could collect. We would also have prize eggs and money eggs. Also, the youngest kids got a 5 minute head start. Once everyone was older, (admittedly, way to old to be hunting for Easter eggs,) it became a free for all. And there would be eggs on the roof and up trees and super difficult to get to.

I think in your experience this may be true. But I know just as many selfish and controlling women as men.

Until a child reaches 8, their brain can not comprehend the complexities of working and not being rewarded because someone else is better. Which is why they often do the "trophy for all" thing until then. Small children's brains don't understand competition. It's supposed to be about teaching kids to share and consider others who have less, something they can understand at that age. It's a good idea, for small children. There is method to their madness.

Your point is that women should be punished for unprotected sex, but its ok for men not to be. It's the women's job to protect against pregnancy, not a mans.
BOTH share this responsibility. And BOTH should share the responsibility of a child. Until men stop leaving women to take all the responsibility for an unwanted pregnancy alone, you can't say that she shouldn't have the same option.
I personally don't like abortion. I do think both men and women need to be more responsible about sex because it creates life. But my opinion has no rights over another persons body.

As a single mother who's ex husband won't pay child support, i can confirm that that is not true. And because of how the laws are set up, i have to wait years and go to court several time before he will see jail time or they will seize assets. It's not cut and dry. And what about those that give their child up for adoption? the woman had to spend 9 months pregnant and give birth. Where's the mans punishment then?

28, and i do work, i support both my children myself, my ex husband chooses not to see them or pay child support. I'm lucky because i can work from home 50% of the time, and don't have the cost of babysitters or daycare to worry about. I'm lucky i have an education and skills that allow this. I could make more money at a different job, but then i would have to pay someone else to raise my children, and i hold the role as parent as the most important and most deserving of my time. My point is not to say that single parents who have to work to support their children and don't have the choice to see them are somehow uncaring. Those parents do whatever they can with what they have and the situation they are in. My point is about attitude towards parents/caregivers, and those that think they are better than them because they are paid. No success outside the home can make up for failure in the home. If a parent has a choice to be with their family, and chooses anything else, they're selfish

As someone who is college educated, even with my MEDICAL degree, it sucks at how little I'm paid. If you've never had to live off minimum wage, count yourself lucky. Someone has to work serve you at a restaurant. Someone has to ring you up at the grocery store. Someone has to pick the food you eat. Someone has to make the clothes you wear. An education and experience do warrant a higher wage. But even those at the bottom deserve a working wage they can live off if and support their families. It's not about greed. It's about working full time and still not being able to pay rent or put food in the table. A higher minimum wage would mean fewer on government assistance.
Most politicians come from rich families who have lots of excess. The point is that they don't understand those who are forced to go without. Poverty is inherited, and so is wealth. And in America, wealth is power. Wealth is what drives politics, not humanitarian ideals.

Also, the idea that the woman should be punished for unprotected sex is really unfair. What about the man who helped create the the pregnancy. The responsibility is 50% his, but society and our government has put all the blame on the woman. If your logic is that she needs to pay for her mistake by carrying the pregnancy, what's his punishment?

Money has nothing to do with this. He values his children and role as their parent above all. Too many look down on spending ones life raising children as "below" having a career. You're not paid so it isn't worth as much as a regular job. But the world and society need more fathers (and mothers) who value their role as a parent. Parents who don't think of raising their children as worthy of their time, have children who know they are not valued.

Exactly! Those that a slur refer to are the ones who get to decide if it's harmful and who can use it. It gives control of something hurtful, back to those who it is used to hurt and oppress. That's why only black people can use the n-word. That's why only people who are handicapped should use the word "retarded". If there isn't a slur or word that is used to mock/insult, that applies to who you are, count yourself lucky, instead of classifying everyone else as "too sensitive".

This is from how the medical community describes age and developmental milestones for small children. It feeds over from that into how parents describe their child's age since all parenting and medical literature you encounter does the same thing.
I think it's fine till the kids 2, since that's when doctors start going by years. After that, you're just being weird.
