There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part.

I get the giggling too, and I have wondered if it's like "oh, I hear about them on the telly- Glee! Will and Grace!" Or if it's just their nervous energy, like if they'd seen a panda where they did not expect one. Never could quite pin that down.

I used this particular image because it's an issue that is very close to my heart- and I agree that being rejected from your family for any reason is terrible. In cases of religion, I believe more often it happens for those who reject the religion (such as Mormons or Muslims) then being of faith. When it comes to being LGBTQI, which is something which is inherently part of you, a large number of youths (around 30%) who come out are likely to experience rejection or displacement from their homes- which has led to 1 out of every 7 homeless youths being LGBTQI in the nation. Hence why I addressed that. Thank you both for your perspectives!!

I honestly thought he was giving me a compliment. Dude, when you say gay on my posts, while you might be trying to insult or anger people, you're really just pointing what I tell them openly. Yes, I am gay, I am absolutely happy to be so, and I do post gay friendly stuff. So gay me all you wish- you have no power here :-)

I know there are a lot of issues and individual stories that are on here and deserve attention and respect for the bravery they've show- I just wanted to interject with a website that's full of numbers connected to trained people- on eating disorders, suicide, divorce, etc.. I really encourage you all to take the next step and talk to someone trained to help: http://confession-of-the-depression.tumblr.com/hotlines. They're there to talk even on the holidays- so call anytime.

If you've always hung out with guys, how do you have a comparison? I used to think that way too, and had almost exclusively male friends until college (I've been the best 'man' twice in my friends weddings, just to give you an idea) until I realized the image of women I distanced myself from and despised was all media and societal made. The idea of these shallow and empty girls is something that is pushed on us- no girl is empty, we all have our battles and experiences. We're more than society tells us we are.

Exactly! Gender roles hurt everyone- and as long as traits that are universally feminine (being sensitive, open with feelings, etc.) are considered negative and insulting, they will be used as insults. Only when we widen our ideas of what gender is and why we think of it how we do (like we're all doing right now!) can things change.

I think you could update this to more modern language- have you ever heard a man called a slut or a whore? What is the worst thing you can think of to call him? I bet you're thinking of some kind of metaphor for being gay or being a woman- both which are considered insults. It's a double standard.

I understand that mood disorders come in a wide spectrum - and absolutely there are people who aren't going to be able to get out or get relief without medical intervention. But it's been proven doing simple things like the ones on this list are helpful as well. I like TED talks too, you should check out this one from the founder of superbetter.com.
