That's pretty much the definition of a grey hat. Doing it illegally, but with non-destructive purposes.

And the character growth is staggering as well. Tavi at the start of "Furies of Calderon" is a completely different character from Tavi at the end of "First Lord's Fury", but he is still recognizably Tavi, and the change happens gradually and believably over the course of the series.

They went to the world of Carna, where they founded the realm of Alera, which they guarded with help of nature spirits called Furies, duh.

Cats did not model meows after babies to manipulate us. Kittens meow to get their mother's attention, but eventually, momma cat stops responding to the meows, so they stop. Humans, on the other hand never stop responding. So, in a way, cats remain forever a kitten in their interactions with us.

Makes me think of a quote from Galaxy Quest:
...
"Are those the miners?"
"Sure, they're like three-year old."
*Gives WTF look* "Miners, not minors!"
...
RIP Alan Rickman, even in a goofy Star Trek spoof, you still were the master of the droll one-liner.

Most of those positives would be Darius the Great, though his son Xerxes is more often used in popular culture, since he was king during the battle of Thermopylae.

No problem. I felt it needed to be added, because Orwell was actually pretty staunchly Socialist in his beliefs regarding society, just not precisely Marxist, and certainly not what one would call Communist.

It is against Authoritarianism, in all the many forms it can take, whether it be through Communism, Fascism, or any other form.

Oh, no. He did a lot more than nothing. He was instrumental in getting the Supreme Court to reach the decision they did in the Scott v. Sanford, easily the worst decision in the history of the Supreme Court. The case where the Court literally said that Black people were not and could not be citizens, and thus had no rights or protections. Buchanan cowtowed to the slave states at every opportunity, and many view his unwillingness to speak out against the secessions as tacit approval of them. There have been other presidents who were more corrupt (Harding, Nixon... and Trump will almost certainly take his place among that group once we are far enough away to get a full accounting of his time in office), but no president has ever failed and damaged this country more grievously than Buchanan.

Lol, that burn on Buchanan was absolutely savage! And, tbf, Buchanan was one of the worst presidents in history, so he absolutely had it coming.

English is the goddamned Frankenstein's monster of languages. It is an unholy union of Germanic and Norman French, with a few other things thrown in for shit's and giggles.

Well, depends on where you set the endpoint of the race. The USSR basically was leading the whole way, but completely faltered at the very end, seeing as they never got anyone to the moon.
