I appreciate brutalist architecture, but this was not that - I mean that colorful functionalism in Sweden 1980s-1990s. I find that brutalism is resurging although now it incorporates a lot more glass with the concrete so the effect is I think very cool. It's just a bit depressing this time of year.

I remember being positively surprised when I came to Sweden mid-winter to see colorful apartment buildings everywhere (this was the mid-90s). Even with snow-topped roofs they looked like gorgeous candies. It looked so cheerful despite winter's gloom. Sadly, newer buildings are black, white and grey with many windows. This time of year, the windows mostly reflect the dark. Can't wait for Advent!

And when someone calls you out on that hurtful behavior, "you're acting just like your <parent>," it breaks your heart. But you apologize, dry your tears, and try again. You may stumble from time to time, but the hike continues. Don't stop climbing - the view is worth it!

Wow that's even crazier :-D Maybe it's because English is my native language, but "videor" sounds so wrong to me.

Believe it or not, the borrowing of inflectional morphology was on my mind today. Specifically, I saw the plural of Swedish "video" printed "videor" which blew my mind. I always say "videos," i.e. English plural. How do you guys do it @karlboll @mr_pigeonwizard

While this is demeaning af, I would park in a pink skirt space to reduce the risk of twits dinging my car.

Can we please just let people read to kids without politicizing it? A lot of queens are awesome performers so I would expect their reading to be emotive and engaging. I couldn't give the tiniest crap what they are wearing, as long as it's fairly modest. Flashing nipples etc would detract from the story.

I had the opposite experience this morning. I woke up groggily, under the distinct impression that I'd heard my alarm clock before. Sure enough it was 7.35, I had a meeting in 10 minutes. Thank god for working from home.
